Yup the XC season is closing in, only 5 more races planned, so today I picked up my new, (well to me anyway), CX bike.
It's an Allebike full carbon frame and forks with Dura-Ace gears and Ultegra wheels. 3T bars and stem, Pro carbon post. Gearing is a nice TA 42 tooth ring plus bash-guard, with a 12-17 SRAM cassette, possibly too brutal for me, but we'll see.
Allebike are a Swedish shop who work in conjunction with an Italian carbon frame producer, and together have created some very nice frames over the last 18 months. My club is part sponsor/test team which is kinda cool too.
It weighs 8.1kg in the picture.
The only question is whether to get some tubs made up for racing or a PowerTap for training, as finances will unfortunately not stretch to both.
Like.
Great looking bike 🙂
.. and tubs every time as the difference between them and clinchers is night and day .
Really looking forward to cross racing.
Yeah really do fancy tubs, partly for the performance and partly for the tradition
Flog the Ultegras before you wreck them, build up a set of 105 on Reflex and some FMBs with the proceeds, then buy a 2nd-hand PT. Job done 🙂
Go tubeless. For me it's the technology that means I'll never have to touch another tubular again and that makes me happy.
Stans 355 rims are great for tubeless CX.
Nice bike.
that bike is crying out for tubs...
Does it really work at low pressures? No burping, thinking of all those kerb edges and old railway sleepers you have to bunny hop.
What pressure then are you running?
just like lee's wheels ,hey ls...
Thanks guys, yes tubs are the way to go, I know, I know. Seriously looking at some Strada wheels.
Forgot to add the brakes are Spooky carbon's
nice bike, reminds me of my bike sort of lol. cant wait to get some more cross races under my belt, interested in tubeless idea for cross wheels too
Yup that looks cool!!
I've used my Fulcrums for cross with Hutchinson tubeless tyres. I also built some Stans rims on Miche hubs and I used them with Stans Raven tubeless cross tyres.
Burping hasn't been a real issue apart from one night time cross race where I hit a few unseen edges. Even when there has been a bit of burping it's never been enough to stop me riding. It's a huge amount less hassle than gluing tubs and you don't run the risk of rolling them.
I'm 12.5 stones. Depending on conditions I've run them from 25psi to 40psi.
The Hutchinson tyres are wide but fast and very tough. The Stans Raven are distinctly delicate and though great to race on I would never buy them again as the sidewalls cut way to easily. I've had good experiences using regular Michelin Mud2s on the Stans rims.
I've also been running my road wheels tubeless for the last two years and I love them. Doing something like the Flanders 270km I ran them at 90psi and found they really took the edge off the cobbled sections.
those Ultegra's are tubeless compatible -woth a shot ???
