I posted on here a few weeks ago trying to decide what to swap my heavy ht commuter for, almost went for a Boardman Hybrid amongst others but in the end built up a light(ish) rigid hardtail.
Comes in around 23lb and cost about £450 to build, first impressions are its fast:

Bars ends are an experiment which we be swapped for something nicer (& black) if I like them.
