I want to get my otherhalf a bike for xmas, she will mainly use it for cycling to the horses which isnt very far away and to ride down bridal paths occasionallly. I could just get her a £99 Halfords jobby but i would rather she rode something half decent. I need ideas and budgeting around £350,do i go for a mtb or a hybrid?

Does it need to be new?
I got my wife a not-very-used Spesh Myka HT off eBay this year, about £300 - £350 and it's a very decent Deore/Tora-level bike with a nice frame.
