[#1584309]

I've signed up to my works Cyclescheme and I am awaiting my £1000 Cyclescheme Voucher, now I have to decide on a bike!

Looking for a Hardtail and I've narrowed it down to 4,

Kona Caldera 2010 - £870
http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m1b7s2p2677

Kona Caldera 2009 - £549
http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m1b7s2p1938

Specialized Rockhopper SL Expert 2010 - £949
http://www.dalescycles.com/2010_Specialized_Rockhopper_SL_expert_p/9104-3115.htm

Giant XTC 1 2009 - £850
http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m1b4s2p2290

Now I've ridden the Rockhopper, and the 2010 Kona Caldera and was suitably impressed, however I do note that the 2009 Caldera has a very similar spec with a much lower price tag, however I am not 100% sure what I could spend the £400+ balance of the Cyclescheme Voucher on, especially as Pauls Cycles seem to have a very limited range of kit on their site.

On the Giant XTC 1, I have not ridden it and have not been able to see one locally however my previous bike was a 2005 Giant XTC SE and I loved it so I was guessing that the 2009 XTC 1 is going to be basically the same but with a much better spec, also for £850 v the £1200 for the 2010 model it seems good,

I'm really just looking for some advice on what has the best spec for the best price and also what "other" kit accessories / components can I buy with the Cyclescheme Voucher?

Just on first look at the specs, the Giant looks like great value. Decent fork and great kit. The Specialized seems waaaaay overpriced.

I'd say probably say the Giant too, based on the fact you liked the old one and the spec. is great. The Specialized looks nice too. The Kona is a bit 'meh' for me. I test rode one a couple of years ago (2007/8 model) and it was alright, but they don't represent as good value and ride as they used to imo. Like you said the 09 model would be the one to get, if you did.

Yeah Pauls sell sale bikes on Cyclescheme but with a 10% fee, the XTC 1 becoming £930 roughly which still seems a good price.

as far as i was aware the bikes have to be bought at full price and no additional discount on the cycle scheme. its in the small print some where, plus the bike shop has to be signed up to the cycles scheme for a start. hope that helps

According to their Website they do:

Ordering a sale bike on the Cyclescheme?
Please note that if you are placing an order for a sale or offer bike using the Cyclescheme an admin fee must be applied - this is due to the Cyclescheme taking a comission of 10% on every purchase made using this scheme. If a sale bike is ordered, the quotation form that we e-mail you will be 'grossed up' to include this amount - an example is shown below

You place an order for a 2009 Kona Caldera - currently on offer at £549.95, an admin fee of 11% is applied taking the total price that we use on the quotation form to £610.44, Cyclescheme take their comission of 10% from this figure leaving a total payable of £549.39 to us (Pauls Cycles).

As with all sale items, there is usually a very limited quantity available, your order will reserve stock of your chosen items for a MAXIMUM of 14 days from point of order - This time will allow for you to present your employer with our invoice and for you to send us your Cyclescheme voucher through the post

Please also note that if purchasing a bike at the full RRP, then no admin fee will be applied
