Got the bike weeks ago now but not been for a proper ride until today. I had my doubts about the 29 wheels (I'm coming from a 15 year old mtb with 26" wheels) but, as advised by Singletrack members, it definitely came into it's own on the mountain. Obviously, the difference between the old bike and the new is huge and I'm very happy with it.

Black pedals and bottle needed...
That looks fun.
Lawn needs reseeding.
Bike looks great.
@matt-outandabout I cover the pedals with my black shoes. Best I can do.
Agreed on the water bottle. Any recommendations? Has a bottle been invented that prevents you getting a mouthful of grit?
@ads678 that’s not my forest but I’ll sprinkle some grass seed next time I’m there.
Looks nice, glad you enjoying it.
Bet you wish you got those nukeproof pedals in grey or blue now.
@endomick Not really bothered about colours. My flats are blue though. If it makes you feel any better, the pedals match the red ‘thing’ on the rear shock.
A black water bottle would look smart or maybe a blue one. Actually, red would look better, lol
Specialized do a black one and a grey one
Nice one OP, looks great. What's in ya SWATbox?
I actually quite like the red pedals.
What’s in ya SWATbox?
Such a personal question, how forward of you. 😉

Camelbak Podium with mud cap.
Check out nukeproof water bottles with the cap to keep out the crap.
The pedal comment was light hearted, no offence intended. They would go perfectly though 🙂
That’s a tidy bus, hats off

+1. I like my water better with no grit in it 😀
That looks a beast
Anyone else get really conflicted about first rides? I want to do a shakedown, and I want to set up the suspension, and I want to do some familiarisation... But I also want to start out as I mean to continue, and really I want the bike to blow me away and the first ride to be awesome. Kinda incompatible...
@howsyourdad1 Pump, puncture repair kit and spare tube. There’s a bit more room left but not much.
Thanks @tracey They don’t have one with a cap to stop it getting covered in mud though.
@stumpymark very nice, what size is it to your height? How much hammer are you giving it? Always a bit dubious about their marketing adds, they properly hammer the stumpy but I’ve seen the last gen snap on a small drop, on you tube actually but equally their other bikes are winning World Cup races. Pedals look better than everyone is letting on.
You need the red pedals otherwise you'd not be able to see it against the grey weather. 🙂
Non of our have a grit cap. A bit of muck has never harmed me over the years. 😉
Down tubes are wide enough to stop most cr&p thesedays!
When Abigale is competing along with her tube, Dynaplug and gas canisters she can fit snacks and a flexi bottle in the SWAT box as well as the external bottle.
Tracey, I was very much in the no harm in a bit of grit club, then I got gastric flu, but nobody else did. Can only think it was from the muck on my bottle.
Bike looks excellent, enjoy! Fidlock bottle with a capped lid for the win.

Me neither. Till it did. Two weeks of a messed up stomach has caused a serious rethink. Bottles with lids for me now. Especially in the mud.

@tails Thanks. It’s an S3 and I’m 5’9”. I’m probably giving it very little hammer. Not ridden properly for around 10 years. Did 3 circuits of Gwydir Bach. Minimal air on the jumps. I love my red pedals too 👍🏼
@garage-dweller So true. It was dark in the forest yesterday.

@Tracey I think Enduro bikes have a larger downtube so fit more stuff in. What bike is she on? Is it Enduro? Specialized sell two sizes of SWAT bags possibly for this reason?
@thebibbles Thanks. I’ll check the Fidlock out. Right now it’s between that and the camelback.
She has an Enduro and a Stumpy ST. Not alot of difference in the SWAT box sizes. She uses the Camelback flexi bottle. She also takes whatever she fancies out of the garage, mine or her dads, and just moves her SWAT stuff across.
I wouldn't worry about snapping it. The S Works Enduro team raced the Stumpy at some of the EWS events with no problems
@Tracey this is the clip
he’s not a bad rider at all, actually very good, plus he’s a Spec fanboy. They sorted him out a new frame, but still if you marketing vids are enduro riders hammering it should be able to take a medium sized drop. Last gen though so perhaps the current one is tougher.
Might be the way I'm looking at it but its doesn't look snapped, looks more like impact to me. The good thing about Specialized is the back up service.
I know as we wrote off a S Works carbon frame after a crash and then two days later a S Works Stumpy carbon frame from a rock interface in the same area as his. We had a rock guard fitted to it, which cracked on impact but the impact was in the same area as his. Both whilst on an Alps trip
Both frames were replaced within a week of arriving home via their crash replacement policy
@Tracey What percentage is the crash replacement of the original? Presume original purchaser only. Santa Cruz offer similar but tend to over build their frames.
