After years of foreign holidays this year before Covid we deceded to rent a big house In Nethy Bridge for a reubion with good friends from down south. Anyhoo we arrive July 16th the day after Scotland hopefully reopens. Im from Elgin originally so Know the area as have been going to Loch Morlich and Santa Claus land since I was a wee bairn.
Anyhoo my plans are a trip over to Ballater for Heartbreak Ridge and Possibly a day at Nevis for some Top Cheif runs. Other than that what to do , High Burnside , Badaguish etc.? Also does Scotroutes still work in a bike shop as might need to hire a few bikes for our freinds kids.
Any Help appreciated..

Yo!

I was in Nethy earlier today. The cafe is doing some takeaway at the moment so it was a good chance to scoff some cake and help prop up tgr local economy.

That week is looking busy. Both iainc and nobberinthefridge are in Aviemore at the same time. Mind you, looks like I might not be.

I'm fully retired now but hire bikes are available from Dave at Bothy Bikes, Mike's Bikes (both Aviemore) and from Nash in Boat of Garten. I'd consider booking soon given the influx we are expecting.

If you're in Nethy all the local singletrack is lovely rooty fun, fantastic for an hours blast, family rides or a longer explore.
If you want a bit more gradient and tech then get down to high burnside, can't recommend enough and wish I'd tried it sooner.
Badaguish also very nice but probably just a hour or 2 blast, I wouldn't bother with the wee bike park there, it's strangely bad!

Personally, I would stay more local.

Go to Ballater and Ft.William another time.

There is so much locally - both riding from your door and within a 10 mile radius.

Thanks for the info folks , Id definately be up for a meet up and wee spin some evening. Will get my friends to look into hiring bikes sooner rather than later as I think its gonna be busy. Really looking forward to this holiday more so than most Spanish or French holidays to be honest ...

I'll hopefully be on holiday near Nethy around the same time and family permitting will be looking to get out for some evening rides too.

We are looking forward to my retirement and GtiJunior finishing his attachment year at the end of July as we will have nothing at all to do and will be in temporary accommodation in Scotland. It will be our first holiday in two years. The last three years have been horrible so I can't wait. The idea of having nothing to do sounds good to me.

Evening pootle ride or beer at the OBI, or both, would be good 😜

I am recovering from a debilitating shoulder injury and as nobeer knows, I have a tendency to fall off, which I really don’t need at the moment!

Aye, it's best you steer well clear of Burnside mate. 🙂
