Doing Mountain Mayhem and would like to do a lap in the dark. Never ridden in the dark before. Don't have any lights, and don't really want to spend a fortune on some. What's the minimum I can spend without wishing I'd not bothered.
Thanks in advance
£50 Deal exteme P7 torch or similar
Or cheapest P7 / MCE led torch you can get
im going to get some of them there P7 ones off of the deal extreme interweb.
i did what your going to do, and got some 40 quid ones off of crc.
they "work" and i can ride offroad, but last weekend i borrowed one off a friend, and it was AWESOME.
so im going to do it properly instead.
save yourself the 40 quid in step one, and get some good ones.
(i dont know how good the p7s actually are, but they look good to me)
hope/exposure/lumi etc aren't worth it anymore IMO
they may well be better made and last longer, but whats the point when DX can do you a P7 or anything else for £20 posted? At that price you could buy a new torch every year for 10 years and still be better off.
I bought 4 Q5 torches, at £10, some good rechargable (2900mAh) AA's, and some battery holders from maplins. A couple of hours with a hand drill, a sodering iron, some scrap wire and some patience and I've got some great modular lights.
I can run 1 240lumen lamp for on the road, great for just looking arround.
2 (480lumen) for riding arround on te single track.
3 if i'm feelign silly
4 if i fancy guiding aircraft in!
Why has nobody said "Tesco torch" yet?!
I used them zip-tied to my helmet at the 'Puffer this year and by hell they work.
al.
I got my bike-specific light from DealExtreme yesterday.
I am genuinely stunned that you can get such a great piece of kit for £50. 900 Lumens is very, very, very bright. Great beam pattern, no hot spots, great penetration, tiny battery. All you need in one box.

I can't see why anyone would now spend £500+ on a Lupine, Hope etc.
Incredible.
yeah couple of tesco torches would do it, £15.66
Two medium tesco torches and one small for helmet, with those block things from ebay sorted. For one lap on a not technical marked out trail should be fine. They do wobble on rough stuff but as a one off try it - use the torches for other stuff too.
Thanks for the info guys, what's the delivery time on the deal extreme website? Think that might be my first stop. Might get some of the torches as well...
Got mine within two weeks from DX. Their order tracking stuff is pretty helpful too.
Is it just for me, or has the DX website been down for everyone for a couple of days?
Waiting for some LED's to come from them, and want to order a fair few other bits too.
Cheers, Rich
