[#633275]

Off to the Lakes in late July with the family for 2 weeks.
Staying in Sedgwick, near Keswick.

Me and my 6yr old lad will take our bikes, the wife and the 3 year old girl won't.
So I could do with some advice from any locals or highly knowledgeable folks. I have a simple list -

A couple of routes for me
A couple for me and the lad (he does Red routes no problem)
A place to hire a tag-along
A couple of routes for the family

My OS Map is ready for study...

*IR not local nor knowledgeable* but I've takne my bike to Keswick a few times

Borrowdale bash is a good ride - tricky in parts (maybe one for just you?). search this forum for threads on it (or bogtrotters have a route up on their site)

family routes - from keswick, up the old railway to threlkeld & back. shortish, very easy, nice ride along the riverside

You and your lad could add on a 2nd bit - from Threlkeld village you climb up the road to blencathra centre & carry on past it up the hill. Can do the "horseshoe" round the valley head & come back down lonscale/latrigg (?) fell into Keswick & meet back with wife & daughter

Whinlatter trail centre is pretty good I think

(now wait for some proper answers from those who actually know)

(Edit - see what I mean ??!!)

yeah yeah - Kendal. Not Keswick.
Who ever heard of Keswick mint cake anyway.
Too much beer for a Sunday night, obviously.

So - if Keswick is do-able then clareymorris offer a great one.
Any other thoughts around Kendal..?

Kentmere is great and very close to Kendal. Lots of good rides you can do from there.

The Howgills are fairly close and have some great riding too.

Whinlatter would be a good place to go with the family I think - a range of loops all going from the same spot plus cafe etc
