Doing a tubeless conversion. I'm using 25mm gorilla tape but my rim is about 34mm outside edge too outside edge. Should I do one half right up to edge and then do the other side or just 1 right down the middle?

I would do down one edge and then down the other edge.

(well I wouldn't, I'd buy wider tape but you didn't ask that)

If the tyre bead is a good fit on the outer shelf, then you could probably get away with a single strip down the middle - trouble is you'll only find out once you've inflated the tyre

It's wtb tubeless ready rims and wtb tyres both are tcs  so imagine fit should be ok

WTB recommend tape that is 5mm wider than the rim. Use that.

Is it essentially just to seal the spoke holes?

That's what how I understood it for tubeless ready rims. Thought it was only non-tubeless-ready ghetto setups that you need to tape to death.

That was my thinking too. Think I'll just try it down the middle. Was going to put a strip of pvc electrical tape down the middle first to save any gunk from the gorilla tape going in the spoke holes.

It's getting the gorilla tape off that will leave a tonne of hard to remove gunk behind to go into the spoke holes when you try and remove it in the future, I bet. 😉

I’ve always just sealed the holes. Always seemed odd to use tape wider than rim bed. Did try once but seemed to be a faff and look messy and ended up taking it off and using narrower tape. Maybe I’m missing something here. Back in the day I did it perfectly successfully with a couple of layers of insulating tape over the spoke holes, though would go for some other tape now. I have used gorilla tape but found it left gunk and also tight tyres had a habit of pushing the tape about as the glue on the tape remains squidgy whichbcoild be a pain.

Yeah that's why I'm going to put the pvc electrical tape across the middle first
