My Raceface Evolve X-Type BB is creaking and on its way out so needs replacing. I'm running a RaceFace Evolve XC chainset so am I tied into RF and their bb's or would a Shimano HT2 work?
Thanks.
shimano would be fine, best value for money too in my opinion, they last for ages normally!
Race face have a bit of a reputation for bb's wearing out quickly!
I stick to Shimano BBs, they seem to last a year or more.
hope bb, can't go wrong
K.I.N.G. No compromise.
Race Face crap Changed it to a Hope can try a Chris King
if you have the Dollars
RaceFace Signature ISIS BB has lasted me six years and two bikes so far. Just one bearing change at eighteen months. Who needs CK?
Just stick some enduro bearings in the RF. No point throwing the whole lot away.
had a race face BB that broke in about 3 months. I replaced it with a Hope that seems to be good and has been going strong for nearly 1 year.
I have just fitted a chris king to another bike and will see if this outlasts the Hope and gives value for money.
I've just bought a Hope (stainless) having got P'd off with replacing RF/FSA ones every 3-6 months. They seem to have a pretty good following and the Hope customer service is always good. Plus the bearings are more easily replaceable than others.
I did look at King ones but, with the grease port tool (seems a bit pointless without it) you're looking at the best part of £150 😯
No problems with my Acros stainless, 2 year warranty too.
Knock the bearings out and press some new ones in. Fiver off eBay. Mine have lasted well and cheap enough to repeat the job when they go again.
61805-2RS for Shimano or Superstar cups, I think Race Face are the same.
Are these the bearings I need? I didn't realise you could just replace them!?
Something like that. You'll have to check the numbers when you get the old ones out. They should come with another external seal.
The bearings in my FSA BB lasted 6 months, replaced with Enduro, still good after 2.5 years.
Excellent stuff, thanks John. The ebay ones are SKF so perhaps better quality and appear cheaper too.
The bearings are 6805's,£9.99 at CRC,probably much cheaper at a local bearing shop.

In order of reliabilty - CK, Shimano, Hope. But if you can replace the bearings go down that route as it's cheaper.
