[#13529826]

Been after a light XC bike since I sold my carbon Cube HT that had replaced my Ragley gravel bike. After much deliberation, heavy flirting with a Specialized Epic and help from you lot via another thread I landed on a new Spur frame for a good price. The initial plan was to build it with most of the parts from my Pace HT but as tends to happen it's ended up as a pretty much new build. Carried over were the dropper, carbon bar, stem and pedals. I picked up some second hand DT wheels as I really want carbon but don't want to pay for them atm! After that it's XT group set, Hope Tech 4 E4, Hope headset and SID Ultimate forks.

Took it out for a shake down run yesterday and am happy to report it is exactly what I wanted it to be. Don't know what it weighs but it flies up hill and feels really smooth and quick. I've not had a multi link FS before and it feels very plush out back, so much so that the front feels a bit harsh so there's fettling to be done. Just the job for the long XC days in the Dales I have planned!

Best of all I have managed to cobble together enough parts to keep the Pace running so this is N+1! BTW, purple was correct in the 90's and is still correct now.

Had a smuggler in the past and can see myself getting another transition in the future. Never had rear suspension feel so plush. Yours looks great, the angle of the top tube into seat stay suit my aesthetic choice, and that colour suits. Those spurs are very capable for such lightweight. Love the fact it’s aggressive intention but light weight.

I’d love a spur to replace my smuggler but I can’t quite bring myself to spend that much on a bike without a motor.

Rarely come up second hand either.

Yeah, the rear suss is the revelation for me. I have a decent amount of pressure in the tyres while I set it up properly and it's obvious up front but you'd never know at the back.

Love mine. Put a 130mm Pike up front so it’s a little more capable on the rough stuff - such a good, all round bike.

It's worth dropping the fork lowers and doing a lower leg + air spring service, even if they are new. My SIDs improved noticeably after the first 50 hour service.

Also, from memory, you picked them up through a PSA on here and they're the older / v1 version with the Charger Race Day damper as opposed to the newer 3P damper? The ramp up on those v1s is very progressive, so much so that it's borderline impossible to get the last 20mm of travel. With a bit of experimentation though you will be able to get the initial stroke set up nice and plush (for an XC fork).

Cheers mate. Yeah, set up as they are I have plenty of sag so was worried about dropping the pressure too much and blowing through the travel so I need to experiment. I have similar age Pike on my HT which are lovely and smooth so was a bit surprised by these tbh and was blaming the lack of compression adjustment. Might look to change them if they don't loosen up but really like how light the front end is so improving them without a weight penalty might be a problem (although I've not really checked the competition)?

Lovely bike! Where was the frame from - and do they have any more? 😀

Wind Wave on eBay mate. Not sure if they have any left though?

Doubt that generation of SID will ever feel close to a Pike. Mine never have anyway. Super progressive from quite early on in the stroke, even with no tokens. It also bottoms out/hits the bumper well before 120mm, so full travel is doubly unreachable. Supposedly the newer SID is better for smoothness but I haven't tried one. Last service TF put some SKF seals in, they feel just the same to me. Some vaguely compliant bars help. My forks went from acceptable to feeling completely buggered when I put some really stiff bars on.

Nice bike BTW!

Love mine. The perfect bike for a mixture of XC and trail. Got mine down to 11.4kg

Doesn't look like it - which is probably a good thing for my bank balance!

Lovely bike.

Glad they've sold out - I keep looking at this, or the Smuggler to go with my Spire.

I've also had a Patrol - big fan of Transition.

Very nice, I guess that's an XL? Looks good with the stretched front triangle.

Very nice. I was very close to buying one late last year, but wasn't sure about the colour (I usually go for boring silver or dark coloured bikes) but that looks really good in your pictures.

Always liked the look of these, and the smugglers. Would love to see a detailed review of them side by side to see how much difference that extra pivot actually makes.

Yeah, the colour really pops! My other two modern bikes are both boring grey so needed some colour this time. It is an XL and spot on size wise for me at 6' 2".

Nice! went out on my Spur this morning, mine has the FOX FIT 4 forks, they have been great so far, also upgraded the rear mech to GX AXS and got rid of the One Up dropper as it kept knocking on the first ride, replaced it with a FOX transfer (shop straight swapped and sent the One Up back) also swapped out the std wheels for a set of DT Swiss EX1501 had laying around
