hi, im staying in betws y coed at end of February. I might do go penmachno or coed y brenin on one day but fancy some natural riding as well
Can anyone recommend me an all weather loop, say about 4 hours riding, Techy descents = good, hike a bike = bad
thanks
have a look edge cycles web site
cheers, some nice looking routes there ๐
SSStu has posted a good loop that goes up to Llyn Colwyd off the A5 near Capel Curig. Not got a route ref myself but it's a good one, ends on a quality rocky descent that finishes at Betws. No HAB unless the Ogwen bog of doom counts ๐
"bog of doom" sounds ominous.
Met several of those in darkest Wales. ๐
marin was first trail centre I ever rode IIRC - back in 2007 but no fancy doing some natural riding. The scenery at gwydhr forest is gorgeous
It was a classic PMJ. A huge raft of spugnum moss or something like it over knee-deep bog, it looked like wet grass at you approached and rode like a deflating bouncy castle. Pete and I stood back and tried to keep a straight face while waiting for those behind to ride into it : )
There's a great loop from Conwy that takes in the Drum if you've got a GPS Garmin thingy to follow.
Some decent climbing, long grassy descents, narrow ST type stuff, fantastic views, open moorland, a nice descent through the woods and minimal tarmac. Its similar to the Dance to the Drum on http://www.bikemaps.co.uk/wales-mtb/conwy-mountain-biking.htm but starts differently.
If you've got a garmin I can (try to) send over the gpx?

Sounds a bit facetious, but do have a look at the OS map as there're plenty literally just above Betws and heading over to Capel Curig (with a tasty descent down into Capel). Not difficult to navigate if you have a general sense of direction (up from Betws via BW and bear right). Lake Colwyd is a good route but one I tend to save for summers as it is boggy up top. Really nice descent down into Capel. The Marin can also be extended be a route locally known as Elin's Revenge.
