I've been very impressed with some Vittoria Goma tnt tyres that I got from On-One/PX recently. Tread is like a faster rolling Minion DHF.

Ridiculously good deal too...£15 for a pair including a Camelback podium chill bottle!

I'm sure you know this but just watch out for the shape change of the tyre in question. Recently bought one of the cheap £8 WTB 2.25 tyres from planetx but my wider rims mean the shape changes and so the 'side' knobbles are no longer actually at the side so once you turn a corner and rely on those side lugs, they're none existent.

Are they the TNT (grey) ones pictured? Description is vague to say the least (for 26" anyway)

EDIT: spoke to Planet X, its the cheaper (non-tubeless) version

Are you sure that narrower is faster?

Not sure about the 26" ones, but the 27.5" ones I ordered are defo the grey tnt ones.
