Got an assembly tomorrow, looking at heroes.
Can you name any recent 'fallen heroes'
Lance
John Terry
Some females would be good
NOT Jimmy!
Bernie Madoff?
Felix Baumgartner (geddit 🙂 )
The David Beckham saga is pretty good for fallen heroes. From national hero, to scapegoat (Argentina sending off) and eventually back to national treasure.
Gary Glitter, well he's not Jimmy.
Ben Johnson
Women are tricky...
TJ
Thatcher?
Marion Jones
Thatcher- get them whist they are young 😉
Nelson mandela
Some reality tv /soap person - i know nothing about them
Martha Stewart
jeanie longo
Milli Vanilli.
Mother Theresa.
Willie Mandela.
michael jackson - when he went all jimmy savile
james brown - when he tried to murder his wife
angus deaton - when he did coke with hookers
Nelson mandela
Tell me it's not so - what have I missed?
Thought he was still destined for sainthood.
Depending on your views of a bit of puff then Missy Giove
Lenny Henry (he was funny once apparently)....
Tom Simpson?
Gazza
angus deaton - when he did coke with hookers
Are you joking? That's when he became a hero! 🙂
a bit of puff
I think 400lbs of the stuff constitutes more than 'a bit'!
Abi Titmus was destined to be a proper telly host before she got involved with John Leslie's video camera?
footflaps - have you listen to roody's rare records? It's good!
tomhoward - abi titmuss was a nurse.
Got Gary Glitter
Winnie M surely
They need to be recent - these kids are 16-17
Ta for efforts so far though.
have you listen to roody's rare records? It's [s]good[/s] as much fun as a severe dose of leprosy!
FTFY.
The only female "hero" (and I use the term incredibly loosely), is that bint from Twilight.
The cheating scumbag!
CaptainFlashheart - Memberhave you listen to roody's rare records? It's [s]good[/s] as much fun as a sever dose of leprosy!
FTFY.
It's not that bad!
A mild dose, maybe.....
One of my class mates was annoying me a couple of weeks ago (she is south african) so I asked her which south african president abolished apartheid. Her answer - Nelson Mandela.....
Anyway - are there not a lot of corruption allegations surrounding Nelson Mandela?
Donald Crowhurst?
Frank Bough 😀 ?
Not really a hero as such, but Whitney Houston??
Heh heh - forgotten all about Frank

George it's Winnie Mandela who is more than a little dodgy, her indoors.
How about OJ Simpson ?? They might remember him. For women try Britney Spiers.
Hitler turned out a bit of a disappointment didnt he?
Arnold Schwarzenegger?
Pook, she'd given up nursing to be a roving reporter for Richard and Judy, then got sacked when the grot film was 'released'. Though to be fair, since then she's been treading the boards and working her way back up doing a bit of acting. /stalker.
Richard Nixon
god you're right, my mistakeAre you joking? That's when he became a hero!
Britney is a good call
Actually so are Lindsay Lohan, Amy Winehouse and George Best,
Florence Griffith Joyner - Flo Jo
John DeLorean's life had some interesting ups and downs. Certainly had some highs, darling of the Thatcherites in the 80's, at one time employer of around 2000 people in Northern Ireland, maker of arguably one of the most iconic cars ever made.
P&**ed it all away, and ended up in a dodgey hotel room trying to sell a suitcase full of cocaine ..... legend.
Tiger woods for putting his balls in the wrong holes.
Rooney with the grab a granny fetish.
Forget those monor celebrities, I give you Fern Britton
A lot of celebrities, but very few heroes (if any).
No one mentioned David Millar - <opens can of worms> he's also a good example of how to climb back onto the pedestal (IMHO).
A lot of celebrities, but very few heroes (if any).
Which is what the assembly's about - heroes make sacrifices - Battle of Britain and all that
How about OJ Simpson
That's who i thought of too. Hard to top going from all-American hero to wife killer. Lance might be a bit of a c**t but he's never killed anyone to death by stabbing.
Barrymore? 😀
I'd Pay money to see you explain the Rooney example to schoolchildren. 😀
Hansie Cronje.
That golf chap from america
Bill Clinton/Monica ????
John Major/Edwena Curry
Gordon Brown
Baroness Warsi
John ???? and the nurse (drugs)
Richard Nixon - from bringing the Vietnam war to an end to being impeached
Lenin - not sure the Stalin-era purges or the Stasi are what he had in mind.
Asil Nadir - British business hero to convicted fraudster
Enoch Powell - although not really one for assembly.
John Daly (golf).
I like the Richard Nixon reference as well. A few more.....
Vladimir Lenin
Lord Kitchener (from K of K to a recruiting poster for mass killing)
Kyle Strait
Marvin Gaye
Hermann Goering (dashing WWI war hero becomes obese, drug-fuelled anti semitic psychopath).
Sean Connery when he made a comeback as Bond after George Lazenby in 'Never Say Never Again'
Elvis Presley
A bit of a mix of seriousness there, but I think they all fit the bill.
Oh and I'll throw in David Lloyd George as well.
Consensus-forming war leader embroiled in all sorts of stuff.
Have a bit of dig around Maundy Gregory, Victor Grayson and the sale of peerages - you'll see some things never change.
the US ice skater who "had nothing to do with" the attack on one of her rivals ?
Gu Kailai (Chinese politician that murdered her business partner)
Winnie Mandela
The boxer Prince Naseem Hamed though I concede, as someone pointed out above, he was a boxer and not really a 'hero'.
Strange how most answers to the question (initially) seem to be sports 'stars', interesting.
Benny from Crossroads?
Benny from Crossroads?
Ooohh, Miss Dianne....
- Serena Williams when she went batshit and threatened to strangle the line judge.
- Whitney Houston.
- Tonya Harding.
- Mike Tyson.
- Marco Pantani 🙁
- Every Asian female president/prime minister who ever existed.
There was a brilliant industrial chemist by the name of Midgeley who was feted in his day for his ground-breaking discoveries. Two that were deemed to be the 'best' were tetra-ethyl lead (TEL) in petrol and CFCs. He couldn't have foreseen the CFC one (although the lead issue might have raised some concerns at the time).
Anthony Eden.
OJ Simpson.
Michael Schumacher.
David Icke
Sorted:
Modern heroes = celebrity - Warhol: famous for 15 mins blah, blah, blah - John Terry, Lance, Glitter - corrupted by ££, fame, power.
True heroes = sacrifice - 'The Few', B of Britain, Mandela, Aung San Suu Kyi etc (explaining why Olympic athletes are seen as more heroic - perception that they're amatuers?)
We can all be heroes (for 15 mins) - just takes a bit of sacrifice.
Thanks
How about Harold Shipman?
How about Harold Shipman?
Why was he a hero?
Services to blatant trolling?
