No, no, please don't encourage this sort of behaviour folks, it's not big and it's not clever. 😐

Joe, you and your mate need sectioning. I'm sorry but someone had to say it...

Definately one of the best 'biking' films I've seen.

+1. Best vid I've ever seen posted on here.

Plus, I hope you informed the coastguard of your plans to take packrafts across those sounds.

Most likely in as much the same way that the many hundreds of windsurfers, rowers, sea kayakers, swimmers, kite surfers do on my local beach.
Letting just anyone know where you were/are/going to be, and 'checking in' would be enough.

Much the same way as me going mtbing on my own.

Great vid; wish I was a doer like this rather than a dreamer (scaredy cat).

My biggest worry would have been losing that precariously strapped kit off the raft

I was on the same ferry back from Shetland as you guys. Slept on the floor of the quiet lounge between the back two rows of seats 🙂 I was interested in what you might have been up to when you were checking your luggage in. Lol.

Haha. It is a small world. We were shattered and made the quiet lounge look a little bit of a mess lying all over the floor. We upset some of the motorcyclists when we were checking in as I made a joke about them being smelly and some of them got really arsey.

Nice vid. How did you do those tracking shots? They look a bit smooth for hand held.

So it looks well over £1000 for a packraft set up 🙁

Great film, a beautiful adventure!
My 3 year old daughter sat and watched it with me, she was very impressed with the sheep and puffins!

What was the tune as you set out in your packcrafts??

I know it, I just can't place it.. (other than in Harry Brown)

Cracking film..

Very, very good.

Loved it. How did you get that seagull to swoop across as the boat was going past?
Have you thought of sending it to XXCmag.com? It's just their cup of tea.

That was lovely to watch - impossible not to want to plan an adventure again now! I don't know anything about film-making but it looked great to me.
Saw the end credits and thought Alastair Humphreys sounded familiar... going to find 'Moods of Future Joys' and 'Thunder and Sunshine' on my bookshelf - two great books that happen to tell the story of a very long round the world ride. Honest, unvarnished, inspiring and highly recommended, IMO.

Al is a great guy and its well worth reading his books. He really isn't up his arse like a lot of so called 'adventurers'

Wow - I cannot believe how busy this forum is!
I have [I confess] never been to this site until a vanity Google Alert for our video brought me here.
I'm really pleased so many people like Jo's video. I think it's really good and he really worked hard to pull it off.
The Bromptons were a really fun way to travel and a great addition to the packrafts.
Packrafts are something I have really come to enjoy. You only need something as expensive as the Alpackas if you're planning on doing Grade 4 / 5 whitewater a long way from potential help.
For everything else it's worth looking at Flytepacker / Sevylor or even a cheap rubber dinghy.

If anyone is looking for someone to film an impressive bike-related film I really can recommend Jo. Give him a call (as long as you're willing to pay - he's too good for free!)

Cheers everyone for the positive comments.
Alastair Humphreys
