OK!
It only creaks when I push heavy gears, out of the saddle stuff, big ring etc! It could be pedals, rear mech problems or chain? I don't think it will be the BB area because when I stand on the pedals and bounce on them there is no sound from that area, but I suppose the pedals are not turning at this point. The first step is to try some different pedals?
Anybody there with the same problem and has cured it?
what bike ?
For me that's always been BB, impossible to recreate by just standing on the pedals but always at the same point in the pedal stroke when applying a bit of torque. Before you do anything else take out your BB, regrease the threads & stick it back in. If that doesn't work, check the chainring bolts and the rear wheel QR as they're also reported as doing the same creaky thing.
29er hardtail.
Rear hub is a pro 2 which has been serviced.
Also - take the cassette off - put some great over the outside of the freehub body and refit the cassette.
Seatpost can also creak so take that out and greast it too.
And all the stuf above.
Also remove, clean and refit bars & stem.
Had the same happen to me on my 29er with Hope ProII rear hub.
Creaking under pedal load turned out to be the rear QR.
Check that 1st as its the simplest to do and then BB, Pedals etc etc
I had a creak which was caused by freehub body (pro2)bearings.
unluckily for me the same creak was on two rear wheels adding to the confusion when trying to find the culprit.
I presume , like I had to ,you checked ,BBracket , cranks, pedals , seatpost, skewer & mech hanger!
The freehub bearings were the last on the list.Ha. annoying isn't it?
Incidently , the creak started off under a big gear , more on one wheel.it then developed to a horrible creak whenever using a little torque up the most gentle of inclines.
I hate creaks/squeaks! Mine was creaking at the weekend too! ๐
99% of the time, a strip down of the cranks/BB will resolve any problems I have like this. Pedals next.
Have you checked for dirty great cracks in your frame?
I'm with Bigsi. Before your start stripping cranks and BB's just smear some grease on the rear axle and quick release. You might save yourself a lot of hassle! (ahem, speaking from experience ๐ ).
Would check the mech hanger (if replaceable)I have had far more creaks related to that than the BB. You can find bits of grit e.c.t can work their way in there, quick wipe and some grease and snug the bolt up as tight as poss. May not be that but by the sounds of your description could be a good place to start.
Thanks All!
I've done all above and so far so good, but I've only been up the hill and not on a proper outing!
Creaky bikes do my head in. I cant rest until I find the culprate of any undue noise. I cant understand how my mate can ride his (bloody good) bike when it makes all sorts of noises.
I would check the chainring bolts before doing anything else. Take them off clean out all the mud and dirt around the tabs then refit.
29er?
You should check the rims thoroughly just to prevent any possible trailside shrapnel injuries being caused by exploding 29er wheels.

I'm one of these people. Once I've excluded a crack or loose rear skewer I just live with it. It usually bothers other people on group rides though.
I cant stand it. I have even offered to take his bike home for a week and give it a going over. Last time we rode his pivot bearings were loose as was his shock bushings and his wheel bearings had a good wobble on them, thats before we get onto that his spokes were so loose you could easily flex both wheels to hit either frame or forks. The bloke has no mechanical sympathy!
You're a great friend!! You wanna go for a ride some time! ๐
Rear Hope hub! The problem!
I'd feel lonely if my bike didn't creak.
I ride a older style Blur LT, I worry when it doesn't creak!
