Headed up to Golspie, Balblair and southerly Laggan this bank holiday and ws, surprisingly greeted with lovely weather and, unsurprisingly, great trails. Laggan and Golspie are my 2 favourite things like this- I keep changing my mind between the technical riot of Laggan black or the balls out fun of Golspie Black.

Balblair- well, I'd never heard of it til last night and we rode it today. It's wonderful- everyone should go. It feels more natural than any other centre, it involves a lot of exposed bedrock and the views are stunning. the descents are a riot and I can't recommend it enough.

Anyway, photos are here-

I love Laggan so much! Looks like you had a great time. Beat my 6 hours trying to work out landlord and tenant law ๐Ÿ™

I prefer "gnarly".

Will- landlord always wins. That's science.

Any idea how long it would take and how many miles in a car to that region from Dumfries? Am thinking of doing a few days north of the Boarders, but haven't quite got a plan or routes or anything sorted mid June. It is still dependent on budget and timings with a few other things I have on.

Great photos and looks fab up there.

It'll be a wee while. We went from Dundee and it took us about 3.5 hours, so about 5.5 hours from Dumfries. It is only 50 miles south of John O'groats.

Ah right - some time then. I suppose I could stop along the way somewhere. I have wanted to do a mini tour for a while now and maybe I could somewhere on the way up and somewhere on the way back to break it up. We shall see as I am also going to be in Wales for a bit too.

I'd say the northern ones are worth going to- the natural riding is excellent too. They're very different to all the other centres, and also a lot better. It's also a stunning part of the world- they're the best views of any trail centre, scottish English or Welsh, that I've been to.

That Ayers rock is rad indeed, but you tipped the camera a bit methinks. ๐Ÿ˜€

Rolf - Never has a truer word been said. I'm going up there in July with my brother for a couple of days, went last year, was some of the most enjoyable riding i have had in a while.

I take it they are all quite close to each other? I'd need a B&B for a couple of days.

Simon - Laggan is two hours north of the central belt. Balblair and Golspie are another couple of hours.

It goes Laggan, then 2 hours to Balblair and Golspie. We stayed at Helmsdale, another 25 minutes north in a hostel off syha.org- it was wonderful and cheap.

Ah right - well that's one stop off sorted on my way up north. I'm not working in June so will have time to take it easy and enjoy the scenery and other local places of interest.

I kind of like the idea of playing things by ear and seeing where i end up each night too.

You were indeed very lucky with the weather. It's normally rubbish up here. I'd stay away if I were you. Definitely not worth the long journey, have you tried Wrexham?
