Nice suicide grip going on there.
the gap is only gonna get bigger...
Suicide grip?
Not covering the brakes.
Get used to it. They'll be better than we ever will be. (speaking on behalf of average dad's everywhere ๐ )
Speak for yourself, I regularly beat my 8 year old on the downhills, don't think he'll catch me until he's at least 9 ๐
Glad to see Zach's old bike is still getting hammered.
I can't keep up with Jake on the climbs now and am only just quicker than him on the downs, can still beat Zach, though he is only 10.
Aye, that wee Scott is ace! It is about to go to Noah, as Jack (shhh) has a new Kona arriving, and the wee one Ben will go on the Specialized.
Man, I missed yours and Deb's message about coming up - pester me again.
Ace pics Mr Zed.
Yeah Matt, will give you a shout when we are up next though it's likely gonna be next year now.
If you get down to Yorkshire then we can have a play out.
high 5 the kids of the future!
I'm reckoning on being able to beat mine on the uphills for a while, but he's already showing signs of being faster than dad on the downhills at 3 1/2!
Live your lives through your children. It's why you have them.
I can still beat my son (He's 15) but it's only a matter of time before the roles are permanently reversed. He's already very quick on the track and with a few more hills in his legs I reckon I'll be fighting to keep him in sight on the big road rides.
Until recently, my daughter was better than my son on the bike.
But recently, Sam's developed a fearlessness that I used to have, but I never thought he'd inherit. He's going big on his BMX and keeping up with me on most of the MTB descents when I ride my HT.
And all of this is due to a crash he had last year. He went OTB, bounced down the trail, panicked, gathered himself, and then proclaimed "That was quite good fun actually" since then, he doesn't worry about crashing, and he rides like a frickin loon.
That's good for me, coz I ride like a loon too.
Lucy's got skill, balance , and control. So she's not far behind these days.
I'm so lucky. I've got kids that love the same thing I loved when I was their age.
We just ride and love life.
Zed. Those pics of your son are real cool man.
You must be so proud.
Ive stopped trying to catch mine, either going up or down

I'm still just ahead of my 9 & 10 year olds.
Dad's tactics that have been used at various stages of their development:
1. keep them on small wheeled bikes
2. keep them on MTBs on the road - while you use your road bike
3. again for the road, keep them on CX tyres while you use road tyres.
I'm currently on 3. & fast running out of ideas!
I thought I would keep ahead till at least until he was 14, embarrassingly beaten once he was 12 on the downs and 13 on the ups and now that he is 14 - thats it: riding on/off road, running, swimming I am beat. And I do them most days and he only does them when he can be bothered! Even karting the little 'Tyke' is quick but he is lighter than me right now...

Was out with my brother and his lad on Saturday at Cannock, did the monkey trail and must have passed 50 plus people against 1 guy who passed us. He's 12 this weekend and his biking target for next year is to beat his uncle Ian on the downhills and given his rate of improvement I'll need to do some work to stop it happening.
He might take a year or 2 longer to beat his dad (who was the fastest vetren on the downhill at the Singletrack weekender (and 12th fastest overall out of 150) but if he stays keen I'm sure it will also happen.
whooop! Kids n bikes ROCK!
They sure do.
If your ever up our way (just outside Glasgow) then give me a shout and we'll take you to the track and a few other spots. I have a BMX you could borrow too if you want...
