Just taken home a vintage Muddy Fox explorer, was outside my house with a sign taped to it "free to a good home" (its yellow)

The question is, is it worth an overhaul as a winter hack, seems heavy but has some trick vintage parts on it (inc. Cook Bros cranks)

๐Ÿ™‚ Freebie-tastic!

You lucky! I can still remember that bike. You lucky bstd.

Do it up and then stick some pics on here.

I used to love Muddy Fox. Shame what happened to them.

Cool - my brother had one of those, until it was stolen (of course). Should make a perfect pub bike when tidied up ๐Ÿ™‚

U-braked I presume?

I check the local paper constantly and have a look down the tip on a regular basis for just that sort of thing.. You must have done something good recently.

I have an old yellow Muddy Fox frame and fork if anyone wants it for free? I think it's a "pathfinder" but my memory is hazy. I used it as my commuter until about March.

Pic (hopefully) here http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/chimpymcchimp/BikePartsJuly08#5337218206794089378

It's in East Anglia and don't want to post it though!

The Cooks are worthless, so you may as well send them to me. Now.

Dylan; you've had a right result mate! Bit of British mountain biking history, that!

It's those lary yellow Muddy Foxes that first got me into mountain bikes, actually.

Pics! Come on!

CFH; I missed out on a bike with early Cook Bros cranks, Bullseye hubs, Grafton brakes, etc, a few years ago. It was a mates, but he got knocked off, and the frame was mangled. He offered it to me, for salvage, but then we found out his mum had thrown it out, and the council had come and taken it away. ๐Ÿ™

I'm just about to dig my 1988 Explorer out of the cupboard it's been stored in for the last twelve years. I want to put it back on the road but have forgotten most of the little I knew about bike maintenance, so if anybody knows of anything I should look out for I'd be grateful to hear about it...

Many thanks!
