[Closed] Mtb shoes for all cycling?

Been using Specialized Tahoo for about 10 years, cycle to work, road biking, fitness sprints, they are on there last legs tbh struggling to find something similar that doesn’t look too out of place on the road bike but capable for the other biking duties.

Been looking at Shimano ME7 they look fairly close and look like they will survive commute.

Anyone use them? Or can recommend something that would do the job? Need to be wider fitting, and mtb spd compatible. Not too trainer looking as need to be stiff enough for the road rides.

I’m sure I asked before, even with the search couldn’t find the thread...

Looks like they dont make em, but they look like this really:

Just pick the Specialized or Shimano MTB disco slipper of your choice. The Recon 2 looks fine to me

I'm currently using some Giro VR90s - they are the same as the road version with rubber sole so are plenty stiff enough. They're mainly used offroad, but after 3 years they show very little signs of wear. Plenty of the top-line XC MTB shoes are pretty similar to road shoe construction with added grips etc. IME avoid anything trying to look like a trainer unless you like floppiness.

I have some 5:10 kestrel which despite how much I normally hate 5:10s are pretty good. Use them for general road riding and also gravel. Would use them for mountain bike ridings but I don't use spds. If you dont an odd colour Adidas has some red ones on sale recently. Super stiff sole and boa close is really good too

I've just retired my Shimano m200 and will be replacing them with ME7 which is the updated version. M200 have been excellent, they survived for 25 days of solid riding doing 8000Kms over 4.5 years in all conditions until the carbon sole snapped and a section of grip detached from the sole. ME7 will be a good investment. Go up by one euro size with Shimano shoes.

I'm using Giro privateers in black. Great shoe with a good sole for walking as well. Look at Privateer for a bit sportier and rumble for a bit more around town.

SPD - Shimano M089 is what I wear - great all rounders.
Also available in subtle colours, my orange ones were just daft cheap.

Those M089 look exactly what I'm after to replace my beloved Giro Privateers, as they seem to only do lace up versions now

+1 for Shimano M089.
wife-from-fife has shimano road shoes and they look almost identical, minus the walky sole.

I've had Shimano M080, M086, now M089. That's the last 12 years of my riding!

All have lasted well, comfortable on and off bike and tread great middle ground of useability.

I really liked my old Lake MX237. Very comfy, not too garish and good old Boa fastening as opposed to more fashionable laces.

Didn’t look out of place on road or MTB from my perspective. They do shrink on a hot wash though, as I found to my detriment.

Check out Decathlon, they do Shimano and Giro mountain bike shoes, my feet seem to be Shimano shaped so that's why I have 3 pairs of Shimano shoes.

I have xc7 shimano’s in the wide fitting and use them for everything - I had to buy them from Germany because shimano don’t import the wide fitting to the uk but I got them in 5 days. Great shoes

Another Lake MX237 fan here like @abingham although I never hot washed because they’re leather. Mine have not long died so I’ve ordered a pair of the replacement MX238 Supercross. Eep.

My darling wife popped them in the machine after a particularly muddy cross race last season. Never fitted quite right after that! Hey ho...

I use Giro Rumble VR for general gravel/commuting/xc/round town riding. Comfortable off the bike and stiff enough on the road. Not particularly warm though, they have mesh over the toe box. Sized up one UK size over my normal shoe size. They've lasted very well, must have ridden ~7/8000km in them and they're still looking good.

Another vote for Shimano M089, you probably need to size up as they come up small. Before getting proper road shoes+pedals I used them for a number of years on both bikes, with no problems.
