The Welsh rules (according to Wales Online anyway) say that you cannot cross the county boundary if you are cycling. Cardiff county is really small, so there's almost no riding available if you stick to the rules strictly. Except for the area around Pentyrch etc which in theory is going to be packed with roadies!

The trails mostly straddle the boundary between Cardiff and Caerphilly, so I might try my luck. Hopefully there aren't any coppers on MTBs patrolling it.

I live mile from Hergest ridge. Its 4 miles long. The border is up near the top. Am I supposed to be fined for going over an invisible border? And what about all those folks walking the Offas Dyke footpath? It wanders from one side of the border to the other constantly. People would pay more attention to the rules if those constructing them took care to do it properly [and didn't constantly break them themselves]. According to the rules you can't cycle from Knighton Railway station into town or cycle to the Co Op from Hay. Idiots.

Pretty sure there's going to be some common sense applied near borders.

Yeh, just not by the Welsh Government. They have a track record for being useless.

Pretty difficult to plan each lockdown area specific to local needs. Especially down here where any border is going to block people from their local amenities or local friends etc in some way or other.

Knighton is in Powys which isn't subject to a local lockdown.

Put slicks on the MTB and show up the roadies. 😉

It is indeed County boundaries that are the limits. You should still be fine riding up into the Ridgeway path though as long as you only descend back into Cardiff, Caerphilly people can do the same but only drop back into Caerphilly. I can get a good 30 mile ride out of staying inside the boundary, not a whole lot of exciting stuff but it will do for a while.

I planned a 43km ride to the furthest reaches of the county and back, took a wrong turn and ended up over the county line anyway.. then later thought screw it and took another few km detour through Caerphilly!

Yup my mistake, the ruling only refers to individual lockdown areas; which pretty soon will be everything south of the A40. Still wound up from losing the mayfly season on the Wye.
