[#684460]

We're off to Chamonix valley later in the month.
I believe that mtbs are banned from footpaths in July. How far does this restriction extend?

So what mtb-friendly routes (with ups, downs and technicality) would people recommend in the area surrounding Chamonix?

What are the best cable-car accessed routes in that part of the world?

We'd probably also be up for a trip to Morzine.

Cheers

We always avoid the Brevent and Flegere trails in the holidays for this reason, that is not to say that there are not quiet routes to do up there, just that sometimes they won't let you on the lifts! Head up to Le Tour for some quieter trails. If you do come to Morzine then drop in to endlessride and we'll mark up your maps (buy an IGN 1:25:000 map for Morzine and Samoens first!), our location here http://www.endlessride.com/php/chalets.php send me a text first to make sure we are there! mb +33618997874

Too Many trails to mention in Chamonix, lots hard to describe too.

Some good info in this thread

Pila on the other side is of the Mont blanc tunnel in Italy is worth a visit for the day, although it is pretty full on DH type stuff.

There is a bit of a Bike Park starting up at Les Houches this summer, skills area and some DH runs, don't know if its any good or not.

we've been to Les Carroz - on the road up to Flaine - for the past 3 years. This is about 40 mins from Chamonix and is way quieter. There is a range of marked routes up there. Maps from the Tourist office.
The one that looks a cracker is from the top of the cable car at Flaine, heading north (?) to Sixt, then you could head down to Samoens, and either ride back up & over to Les Carroz, or hopefully the chair would be open.
