I'm after some advise on how best to plan a cycle route between Hertfordshire and West Wales using only bridlepaths, permissive paths and (where necessary) the odd cheeky footpath.

If a route exists then I'm toying with the idea of cycling the route as a fund raiser. How do I go about establishing whether such a route could even be plotted?

Ideally zero tarmac

Thanks

Use an on-line os mapping site like streetmap or wheresthepath and try and draw a straight line

do a search on the British Cycling web site for clubs in the areas you wish to pass through, contact them for route advice. Or just google bike clubs in West Wales etc.

Try mtb Wales; http://www.mtbwales.co.uk/GpsFiles.asp

Herts; http://www.herts-wheelers.org.uk/

trans cambrian route (imba uk) will take you on minor roads and bridleways from Knighton to Mach so you just have to plan the hertford to knighton part.
