Been looking for a new car - I was wondering if anyone had a BMW 5 series saloon and had managed to get their bike in the boot (with one or two wheels removed)? I dont really fancy getting a carrier and I know the boots on these cars are supposed to be pretty big... I like the idea of just getting a boot liner and chucking it in.
Thought that perhaps someone may know the answer to this?
I can get one in the boot of my 3 series with the forks off.
I can get two bikes in the boot of my 5 with both front wheels off, or one with both wheels on. This is with the rear seats folded of course, never tried it without

Yes squishy it's a factory fit option though - well worth getting and not stupid money - I never feel the need to have chosen the estate version
both wheels, and saddle off in thebzck of the current three. I have to pull one third of the rear seat forwards to get the bars in. Once it's in, I can push the seat mostly all the way back, concealing the bike. You should be absolutely fine in a five.
As Squishy, on the saloons, split folding is an option - not standard fit.

Forks out, wheels off and seat post down or out.
Mine doesn't have folding rear seats.
my bro has a jag x type. Seats don't drop, but we could fit a 20" frame in, with forks, wheels off, with just a little bit of trial and error
I used to have an old Merc E-Class (mid-90s model). I could fit my Big Hit in the boot with both wheels off.
Ford Mondeo Estate, any year, Mks 1-3.
bike with wheels off and all my gear can be stowed in the boot with the back seats up. fits easily, frame and forks in first, gear(helmet,shoes,pack) placed around gaps in frame. wheels on top, pull load cover over and job done. out of sight and you can still use the back seats as usual
Pug 406 estate, split rear seats, wider part folded (never flat - too difficult for the Frogs to achieve) and 2 bikes fit inside. Strangely, 456 SE with long forks fits without any hassle or removals, Kona A needed the front wheel taken off. Scott Ostane fits easily as does a Prophet. I tend to remove the front wheel if QR or faff about if bolt-thru.
BTW We used to fit s GT hardtail and Spesh SX (the original white) into the back of 205 with the seats folded and Spesh front wheel taken off.
I just need to take the front wheel off to get mine in the boot of my e46 3-series coupe. It's a fairly tight fit and the HK amp doesn't help, prob going to get a tow-bar fitted though as it's not very social/convenient only being able to take one bike 🙁
I used to have a 3 series saloon years ago and my 16in GT fitted in the boot easily just by taking the wheels off.
I,ve got a 5 series saloon without the fold down seat and if you take the wheels of there's plenty of room for a bike in the boot, I can also get a bike minus the wheels in between the front and rear seats.
Wow, thanks for all the replies guys - really useful. Sounds like with the wheels off it would fit easily in a 5 series saloon boot. I was weighing up between the saloon and the touring (estate) and whether I could fit the bike in the saloon's boot was a factor in my decision...
Now I have to decide whether to go for the 520d or 525d - i guess it depends how green I want to be 🙂
