I have a 2008 Giant Trance and I find it a right pain to fit the front mech so it shifts cleanly. I can fettle most things on a bike, but I have to say, I find getting a front mech set up is one of the trickiest things to do. I can never seem to get it to shift up to the bigger rings well. Can I fix this by removing one of the two BB spacers I've got on the drive-side of the BB?

The adjustment screws never seem to do much adjusting.

Any tips for minimum-faff fitting would be appreciated, ta.

Funny that. I hate fettling but can do this. I need a book though (I use Park's).
IIRC the spacers are determined by the width of the BB shell, and if you have this wrong then you'll always have probs shifting into the bigger/smaller rings.

But like I said, without the book this could all be hogwash.

here you go: park tools guide

don't remove the spacers, as sleepy says, these space your BB correctly.

adjustment screws are the limits and won't help indexing.

If it is not reacing the big rings then it's either the wrong height or you need to pull more cable or less likely the wrong angle.

but go with the park guide. It's quite simple if you tkae it slowly and methodically - otherwise it's a right arse! ๐Ÿ™‚
