Went with Switchbacks about 4 years ago and at the time they were based in a small hillside village called Boubion. Nice small village and the riding was excellent.

Wasn't impressed at all with Switchbacks and won't use them again. Our group was stuffed into a run down terraced "chalet", with very little room for us and our bikes. Central heating was by means of a wood burner and we had to plead for a supply of wood every day to keep it running (it was April when we went so pretty chilly and damp). We had nowhere near enough wood to keep us warm and it didn't work properly anyway. The bathrooms were in a shocking mess. The "included breakfast and supplies for lunch" included cheap sliced bread, even cheaper slices of ham and some crap cheese. Really wasn't impressed and was embarrassed as I chose it to celebrate my 30th birthday with mates.

For a fantastic week's riding in the Alps I would highly recommend going to Bike Village, based in Landry, just down the valley from Bourg St Maurice. Amazing singletrack riding, be prepared for riding up to earn your descents (I like that though), although there's a fair bit of lift assist or uplift. The hospitality and food is second to none in my opinion, and the guides are great. Can't fault it.

Green Light....

Excellent holiday, so long as you aren't looking to go raving in the evenings....
I'd go in May, rather than June though, as it starts to get proper hot. We went in July last year and it regularly got up to 42deg. C.

There's masses of stuff on here about Bike Verbier, all extremely complimentary. I visit them almost every year and it blows me away every time - incredible singletrack, often well off the beaten track; fantastic hosts and guides; and very comfortable accommodation with superb food. These guys (and girls) have got it well and truly dialled, and their experience really shows. Plus, there's none of the penny-pinching corner cutting you find with various other companies. Dozens of folk on here will sing BV's praises.

With £1k each why not do two weeks in different parts of the Alps with different operators?

Or three weeks with self-driving and partly self-guiding. Which is what we did this year.

+1 for White Room by the way, sounds like just the sort of riding you want.
