Morning All,
Well, I've always and I mean always ridden Specialised...then some scrote stole my Hardtail twenty months ago (at the same time my boys were born...talk about bitter and sweet). Plus the full susser needed too many things doing to it to get it back up and running, plus due to having 3 kids I didn't get the time to do any off rode so just stuck to riding the road bike...Well a few months down the line, a new country (Switzerland) and although time is still precious, I've got some good off road on my door step, plus with such great cycle tracks we can get out much more as a family.
I'm going to be buying from Germany (shed load of Euros left over from living in Greece). I want a hard tail (like to keep things simple), plus I want the option of being able to mount a rack from time to time. I'm thinking one of these
I hear 29's are all the rage now days, but I'm not sure if they do them with rack mounts (I'll have to check)
Any other brands/models I should be looking at.
Must admit, looking at the reaction pro, looks to tick all the boxes, any words of wisdom regarding the folks, or cubes in general?
Cheers,
Gl.
I don't think you can beat [url=
for a bike deal at the moment. Not ridden anything other than Cube so can't really comment...
CUBEs are great. Hard to fault.
No rack mounts on the reaction.
I have a reaction 29er and it's a fab bike, well made quality carbon, and great frame finish. Value for money is off the chart, in a few years no way will these bikes be this cheap.
Just spent the last half hour looking at the Cube Reaction and was going to post the same question!
Really interested also in opinions on these, particularly from any long term owners.
Also are their listed weights accurate - have it in my mind for some reason that they're quite heavy in comparison to other brands.

Except that it's:
Not a hardtail
Not in Germany
Not got rack mounts
Yes, perfect. There's a bargain BMW 3-Series I saw this morning, probably closer to the OPs requirements 🙄
How much was it Njee ?
Apart from the rack mounts issue, I'd highly recommend Cube. The litle lady has one and it's a fantastic bike, especially for the price.
How so hitman, my reaction weighs just under 24lbs, for a 29er that cost £1500 I would say that's pretty light. My road bike is only 6 lbs lighter.
Do you have examples of bikes that are much lighter spec for spec.
Love my reaction 29er, i'd prefer a 2 x 10 lighter set up and lighter wheels, also the seatpost saddle combo will need swapping out, the saddle may look light and racey, but it's heavy and uncomfortable.
I stuck a 30mm shorter stem on it too, got the 19" at a smidge under 6ft tall, and was a little too stretched out.
It flies . . .

Looking at the blown up photo of the above it appears to have rack mounts...am I missing something?
What's your lady got? Thinking of getting one of these for the good wife
Plus I'll probably buy a trailer for the twins and one of those trailer/bike things for my 3.5 year old daughter....needless to say I shall be asking for quite a discount!!
CUBEs are deffo not known as heavy bikes. THey generally come up light within their price range from what i've found.
Have the aluminium 29ers not got rack mounts?
yes they have . . [url=
fork too . . .[/url]

Did you see the doctor about your problem?

I stuck a 60mm stem on mine too, found my weight was a tad too far over the front end.
I find te saddle ok, it's hardly a boat anchor, maybe 50g heavier than others. But it's not the best and for sure another place to make a worth while swap.
Doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the seaost to me, it's very strong, easy to adjust and clamps hard. Again not the lightest.

Good spot, I'll have to take a look at that one.
I note from the blow up photo, there doesn't seem to be much clearance between the tyre and seat tube...have to check it out in the flesh!
Cheers!

To be honest, I was only going on what others have said.

One of these:
It was about a grand from CRC, bought around Christmas time. Cracking spec for the money, and really nice in the flesh.

Day by day I'm getting over it...although I still have a few jerseys 😳

Apologies, twas purely metaphorical.
Lack of rack mounts on a hardtail isn't a big issue - you can use P-clips. More of a problem on a bouncy frame.

Just more of a comfort issue really, want a carbon post, not ridden my new saddle yet though, so a carbon bar is probably first port of call.
I think Canyon are in Germany so how about something like this as an
stevewhyte I wasn't saying that they were heavy but for some reason had formed the impression they were (might have been an article read or a conversation shared) but that's obviously not the case.
Although not a hardtail I own a AMS 130 pro and it's a awesome ride! I read somewhere (probably a forum) that Cube's can come up a little short in size and I spent a good while trying to find dealers in the UK that stock them - not an easy task.
I think that what you pay for them you get a good spec of bike and something that handles very nicely indeed.
Have two Cubes.
A 2010 Reaction GTC Pro - now with a crash replacement Elite HPT frame, and a 2012 29 Reaction SL.
Like them both very much. Superb value for the spec.
Both were bought from a company in Germany for major savings but it's not without it's hassles.
