[#2162813]

So my premiums come through, gone up again now £650 (premier b&c, away from home)

Remember reading about people who said to cancel and then take out another policy online to get a discount.

I've tried using the online form to get a quote but have found out that as I had a claim greater than £3k (was 3.5k) in 2007 is says 'can't give a quote' - no please contact us to discuss or anything like that.

If I make the claim value 3k or less (just so I can get past the validation) I get a quote of £400.

So looks like I can't cancel and take back out online.

I'll give them a call on monday but wondering if anyone else has been in the same situation or if there are any other providers with similar cover which I could get a quote from to barter with?

I went with M&S last year as there was no other comparable company (that I could find) who'd give us the 'away from home' cover (me for the bikes and my wife has horses so lots of tack etc) at any kinda sensible rate.

tbh I've never claimed on house insurance, but to give you a comparison we pay £250 pa for both - 3 bed deteched in SE and new for old/premier etc.

So the claim itself hsn't resulted in a year on year increase?

If that's the case, phone them. My renewal came through and had a big % increase so I went online for a quote which resulted in a 20% increase. I called them and 'complained'. They re-ran the process manually and came up with an 8% increase which I renewed at. I haven't had any claims, before during or after.

"Home Insurance
We are sorry but we cannot provide a quote.
Thank you for your time"

This is the message - what a crap way to treat potential customers....

I've tried switching the postcode to my inlaws, but keeping the same details and that knocks £100 off so we must live in an expensive postcode to insure.

Tbh £400 for all that cover I would be happy with, just hate it when companies decide to try and rinse existing customers hoping they won't shop around. A jump of over 50% is not really on.

- claim caused a small increase in premium which is fair enough but was back in 2007 so not sure why it has jumped so massively this year

Just had mine through, its gone up from £251 to £268 including tax so its not worth the hassle of changing / chasing them for a better quote etc. Thats for everything except Home Emergency so Premier B&C and cover away from home too. Guessing bikes are still covered - not mentioned anywhere so appear not to be excluded. Calling them now to check though..
