Hey Chaps,

Has anyone tried both Air and Coil? Mboy has, but not quite long enough to be certain which he 100% prefers

Cheers

Ricks

Nope, but...
I'm a massive fan of MRP stuff, however a riding buddy's Ribbon coil has been a massive PITA.
Really significant stiction issues that just can't seem to be resolved, it's been back a number of times, every time it's agreed there's been a problem, but every time it's come back the same 🙁
It's be worth checking to see if this is a one off. It may well be.

I have. The main thing for me is that the coil is more fit and forget. I had air issues to the point I always worried if they were faulty again. With the coil, I know what each adjustment will do and although I'm not totally settled on the spring of choice they are working well.

I have MRP stage forks. They are brilliant.

I’d never buy MRP again as there service network is dreadful. Mine went to the importer for a service and long story short I was without my forks for two months, no apologies, no s**ts given.

Buy something that’s easier to look after.

Sorry, not both but have been running a Ribbon Air 29er on my Tallboy for the last year and also did have a 650b version on my Patrol for 1.5 years. In a nutshell the best fork I've ever owned but also the most frustrating at times. The level of tune-ability is vast and can lead to a little head banging at first, I've found that just set everything up as default and then working your way form there being the best way, once you hit the sweet spot its all worthwhile. Reliability seems to be pretty good, I have clocked up a total of around 6k km on both without any faults.
Only issue I have is the service side, I'm based in Hong Kong and found myself, after selling the Patrol as a frame, with a pair of 650b forks that I didn't need and thought it might be better off with a full service before I sold them (hey, I m a conscientious seller). 2 months later I finally got them back as it turned out that a lack of local access to service parts (seals etc) meant the forks went from HK to Taipai and then finally the US to get serviced! They managed to lose the axle on the return as well :(.
I'm a little concerned as the set on the Tallboy are due a rebuild so I may look to buy the service kit and do it myself this time if I can.

I've had no issues with support, UK distributor have been OK sorting things out. There is more info on servicing available now and the support from MRP stateside is prompt via email and in the huge Mtbr thread that is worth a look.

Not tried the air but the coil is a brilliant fork.
I had a Marz coil before and this is better. Really set & forget.

I tested out the 36 & Lyrik and prefer this.

Still new so can't comment on service / warranty but the above isn't the most encouraging.

I run the ribbon coil on my Turner RFX and as long as you keep up with the lower services it's the most amazingly consistent fork. I genuinely can't see anything beat it.

I ran the Stage Air before and again. For an air fork they were amazing. Popped them on the lads bike when I got the coils.

The only downside I've had was Ison. I sent the stages off to them for a service and 2 months later I had to send a few angry emails of to both them and MRP to get to the bottom of where they were. But lots of places service then now including TF tuned. So I doubt I'll have that issue again.

All in all I love MRP gear.

I really like my Ribbon air but the Ison issue has me worried even though I will be doing all my own service work.

Local shop have an Ison account & ordered me the damper bleed cup and valve wrench, was told 4-6 weeks. After 10 weeks they chased them and were told they only had the valve wrench. I went direct to MRP and had them both within 2 weeks.

I would lend the damper bleed tools if anyone wanted to use them, drop me a message
