Me and a friend are thinking of buying a cheap old caravan and ripping out the interior and filling it with bike gear and two sleeping bags to tour the UK in!
Has anyone done anything like this with any advice or ideas on how to go about this? By the way I usually hate caravans but this sounds like good fun
Thanks in advance
Why do you hate caravans?
APF
Sounds brilliant! Do it!
Why not leave the beds cooker cupboards toilet sink etc in the caravan? Most of that stuff is pretty useful, should still be enough room for bike gear if you get the right caravan
Rockshox Pikey's on tour.
I've seen it done ๐
Sounds like a special kind of hell....
Do either of you snore?
Van would probably be just as practical with a bit of effort building rather than ripping apart and much more flexible about where you stay. Doing it in nice weather then chuck in some nice car camping mats and a cheap tent or two so you can get some personal space.
Proper 2 burner gas stove, bottle, gas bbq and few other bits and you are away
Yeah van would be easier but then there is the MOT, tax, insurance which all adds up.
You know you need to tow the caravan with something, they are also expensive things
You know you need to tow the caravan with something,
The bike?
Can somebody go and wake up molgrips think this is finally his thread....
Can you tow on your licence?
Your username would suggest not!
Also +1 for not ripping it out. Just chuck your bikes in
It's a cute idea and I'm sure you could make it work (if you have a suitable motor for towing).
However if I were young, footloose and fancy free I'd do a pikey conversion on a van instead. That's what a lot of the racers do and it'll give you a lot more flexibility for stealth camping.
Plus it'll probably be cheaper to get across to the Alps for the summer when you've finished in the UK.
I don't get the ripping the interior out. Why not just lob the bikes in?
