Hi, is there an equivilent forum for moto enduro? fancy riding on Salisbury plain etc but don't want to ride where I'm not allowed!
Cheers
Salibury plain is crap unless you find the tank training areas but even then its not great and you will get chased by the mod. Secretly and quietly in the welsh forests is where its at but ssshhh.

cheers Swede!
When I say crap, I mean there's nothing really challenging. If you're just starting out then its ok for a potter around as its littered with tracks that criss cross all over the place but you will get bored if you're looking for techy stuff.
I am a beginner. just want to blat about a bit really, maybe a bit of green laning with the wife too!

If you're new to bikes try a practice track or enduro school, there are plenty of them about. If you're based in the South check out Rogers Hill Raceway, Bere Regis http://www.rogershill.co.uk/raceway/
Another excellent facility down in Devon, Wheeldon Off Road http://www.wheeldontwo.co.uk/
Please, for the good of the sport, don't go riding anywhere you shouldn't (even if it is hush hush)
Cheers chips. I won't be doing any "cheeky" riding on a powered bike!
Never heard of TRF...will have to google that. Cheers Daisy!
Some people have good experiences, others not so with TRF. I meet a loads of great people who rode in smaller groups in the eve or during the week when the lanes were less busy. There is also a forum called muddymonkeys from memory and were a sub-group of throttlemonekys but it's going back a bit now.

This place is great. They do guided rides out in groups around the Elan valley, Brecon, Strat Florida etc. The place is really well geared up for green lane weekends with big lock ups, drying room, tool room. The guides make it as hard or as easy as you want and know all the good stuff. A really nice place to stay and get filthy. The food is great and the building itself is set in a beautiful part of the country. Now I miss my 525 ๐

Get a few OS maps tons of Byways in Wilts.Swindon way/Tidworth/Salisbury and into Dorest. You can go to Enduro pratice tracks.
Look at www.trailbikemag.com
www.enduronews.com
Something tells me that I'd quite enjoy something that combines motorbikes with off-road trails....
All great responses! I love STW

Your original post is mentioning enduros, trail riding and riding Salisbury plain. In so many cases it all gets horribly messy and I don't mean mud. Enduroos mean closed courses. Racing. NOT green laning. (Apologies if I sound patronising its just that after 30 years of trail riding and then getting into enduro's I have seen so many people go the wrong way and also both activiities damaged by lack of understanding) .
Trail riding/green laning is road so everything has to be legal. Got a licence? Some enduros need road legality although ssadly tis is is disappearing. An alternative event that is now popular are Hare and Hounds which is a term that many think are enduro's. H&H are 2/3 hours flat out round a several mile loop. Much easier to do than enduros as they ave this nasty modern habit of allowing late entries.
In the good old days we went trail riding and then took our trail bikes to an enduro and wern't last. Nowadays its the other way round and the green lanes that are left are full of KTM's ridden with no consideration for others.
Join the TRF. There is a reputation amongst some for some groups being dull. Thats not true. Any club is what you make out of it. Those who think they are dull should go and ride races instead if they want to ride race speeds on green lanes.
Oh yeah and don't buy a big bike. A nice little 250 4 stroke will be plenty and insist on a quiet exhaust.
Again sorry to rant but what was a great sport has been trashed by too many wannabe racers and magazines cashing in. Maybe join an ACU club that runs enduros. Here's the link to mine

Well said Matt. You could buy a bike like a Beta Alp 200.Husky 125wre 2 stroke or 4.Too many sport bikers buying big KTMs and carving up the countryside.
