planning to drive over to morzine with the family in the summer.
Are there enough trails to ride generally without being too extreme.
Boys are 11 and 9 and can ride uk trails and the peaks no problem (other than climbing)!
both are on hard tails.
If any one can give me info on the rides and general activities we can do I may not have to smuggle them over in the dead of night.
also any info on chalets/apartments would be good
Funniliy enough I was going to ask the same question - my brother's interested in taking his son (10) to Les Gets and was wondering what was there. I've only ever been there with groups so never really noticed what family stuff was available.
I have some friends who regularly take their kids and last time they went they were seven and nine (these kids are bit mental largely because their parents are!) but they did quite a few of the trails and white water rafting.
There are also summer clubs/camps that you can leave them at so you can have, ahem, adult fun.
As above, since aged 5. Loads to do. What dates are you there? I'm out with a bunch of mates for a week from 23- 30 July.
My youngest, now 13 has always loved riding 'Le Grand Cry' above Les Gets. It is the green run from the top of the Chavanne lift back down to Les Gets, via La Mouile Ronde.
Another massive favorite is the GR5 from Pointe de Mosette back down to Morzine. It passes the Refuge de Chesery, always good for a cold beer and an ice cream.
My 10 year old is absolutely mental down all of the DH runs. Used to suffer on a HT, but managed to get him a 24" Norco from here, re-sprung it to suit his 30kg weight, and got him as much body armour as I could find. He absolutely loves it.
Lac Montriond (5 mins drive from Morzine) is great, and there's white water rafting, kayaking, canyoning, 50m outdoor pool, loads of walking (really goog at the Mont Chery side of Les Gets, I find), Go-Ape stuff....yup, it's excellent for kids. A decent day out is Chamonix - the cable car up to the Aiguille Du Midi, then decend to the mid-point, and a longish walk to the glacier (plus a walk inside it), followed by the cog-railway back down the mountain into town.
Not great when it's raining, mind you - there's only so much ice skating you can bear.
Bring on the summer. thanks for all the info and maybe see some of you out there.
What sort of costs to do the rafting/ kayaking etc
Rafting is not cheap- but is worth EVERY penny, get a seat in the front. If you make it clear that you only speak english you may well get a raft just for your family, with an english speaking guide, loads more bang for your buck as they say. And do buy the CD/ DVD at the end, well worth it for the memories.
Gorge du Pont du Diable are well worth a visit too, but best saved for a wet day.
