Off to Morzine with my son on Saturday & happy to spend most of the time riding the tried & tested trails, but would like to try something a bit more epic & spectacular for one or two days.
So has anyone got a gpx file of the classic ride from Morzine to Col Du Cou?
And any other suggestions of some non-DH rides out of Morzine.
We had a thread recently - will get you the link
Have a look at this post/whole thread Linky
Accessed of Mossettes lift from Avoriaz/Linderet side, pedal back round under the lift on Swiss side on gravel track to Col, then to Arrete Berroi
Yes & thanks, I've seen that thread, but sitting here on the sofa it all seems very confusing & I'd love to load up some gpx files before we go.
cheers
Anyone done the route back to Morzine from the col? I've seen where it spits you out at the bottom and it's then a pleasant trundle back along the river. I usually stay in Les Prodains so with the new lift there can get up down and up to the Swiss border via Mossettes pretty smartish.
I have emailed you some stuff just now.
I'm not sure what the situation is this year on the Swiss side. last summer we headed over to the Col to ride down the Swiss side to find the really nice bit of single track now has a large interdict VTT (no bikes) sign on it.
Might be something to check out if you plan to head to go that way and the alternative way down was a pretty boring 4WD road which included a 200-300m climb in it.....damn
@John at the end of the Arrete there is a nature reserve (if you turn South) which has always been no bikes. The Swiss do have the ability to close paths to bikes, in fact there is a question as to whether its allowed at all. In Verbier they held a special vote to formally approve the enduro trails access as these are on "walking" paths.
I did it last Tuesday starting and finishing in Morzine.

Only thing I would change was doing the Swiss National DH track to the Cafe rather that the route we took.
Get the book mentioned in the other thread. I did and it was brilliant.
We did it a couple of years ago. Some spectacular riding. Some real arse clenching bits, some really overgrown stuff (when we rode it) and some bits that were even quite sketchy on foot (maybe those are the closed bits). Great day though.
OP note @lowey rode down the French side from the Col as per my map above, the route people usually speak of is the Swiss side finishing in Champery, I believe the lift staff told him the Swiss side was closed due to fallen trees
I did it on Monday (the ridge run to Champery, not the descent to Morzine in the link above): https://www.strava.com/activities/629958341

It was a great route, got a bit of a telling off by a walker on a bit of path just after the ridge (you go down some steps and follow it to a water spring). Otherwise all ok, a couple of snow crossing on the col de coux climb itself. let me know if you need the GPX.
Basic directions:
- Head to the top of Mossettes and down the fireroad that runs along a ridge on your right looking as you go up the lift.
- Look for black Swiss National DH track (its pretty easy actually) which heads off left and down towards Crosets. At the second road crossing you go right and follow that all the way to the Col De Coux
- Just shy of the summit is a left turn (currently in the middle of a snow drift), there is an earlier left with a signpost, carry on up to the second one (easier to see from the top of the climb)
- Follow that up and down along the ridge, down the steps and lots of tight switchbacks to the hut with a water spring (worth a dunk!)
- Look for the singletrack route on the left of the fire road, and follow that all the way down to the tarmac road (you will cross a few fireroads). Go right down the road all the way to Champery and back up the cable car. Should be self explanatory getting back to Morzine from there.
