I was hoping that I could remove the inner and outer ring from an old Truvativ chainset and use the middle ring as part of my cheap venture into singlespeeding.
Do I need to order special shortened chainring bolts and if so where can I get them cheaply (inc P&P)?
I've ordered everything else (or at least i hope I have) and want to get it built up over Christmas.
Thanks
Wiksey
Could use washers but short bolts looks neater.
Booga. Any clue where I can get some delivered for not much cash?
I usually just file them down cost nothing ,singlespeeding priceless 😀
I'm sure CRC do them.
LBS? a proper roadie shop should def have them in.
Any half decent bike shop should have some I'd have thought.
What about inner chain-ring bolts?
Inner bolts? Would these be the right length?
The problem with using the SS is the length of the outer section of the outer bolts (the nuts basically) - they're too long, designed to go through 2 rings. You could file down the outers to suit but be wary of damaging the thread, and there wont be much thread left.
CRC or Charliethebikemonger
£6 from ctbm
It is possible to cut down double bolts to fit single chainrings - if you are in a fix + don't manage to get hold of any in time.
yup crc do them, if not put a washer or two on the orginals to take up the extra room...no problem
Go to your LBS if in doubt
Stop messing around on here and file em down, its not hard to do - or you could buy some i suppose. 🙂
Looks like CTBM will be getting another order then. In the mean time there'll be 2 spare rings on the front.
I actually went with another recomendation (sorry Charlie) and ordered from http:\\www.HubJub.co.uk
Ordered lunchtime yesterday, £6 delivered and I've already got them!
Can't believe how quick they've got here, especially considering the time of year - fantastic!
