I get that technically pros can travel a reasonable distance to train, but 5 of you all together for a chat?
One of you may be local, but think how it looks to outsiders on a busy path next to the main road through the tweed valley- they don’t know you from Adam and just see a bunch of those bloody bikers breaking lockdown rules again. Gowaan yerselves!
pointless without names TBH.
How do you propose they mark themselves out as pro’s, over ‘bloody bikers’?
Think it's clear who it is.
Anyway how can you tell there's rule breaking going on? They could have all been riding as a household, solos whatever and just saw each other briefly and said hello from a distance.
Edit, sorry missed the bit about being pro and training together.
Maybe some team kit then so they don't look like your regular riders?
Yeah, I’ve been getting annoyed at my phone scanning through various riders’ Instagram feeds.
And then I get annoyed that these people are making me *appear* to be an old grumpy man. Meta annoyance.
A few ews racers are living in the tweed valley at the moment so possibly a bit quick to judge on this , on the travel part anyway .
Are you sure they are pros and not just well-kent faces? I don't follow any racing or pros so unlikely to know who they are...
All fair points, but still a group of five in a very public place. As high profile athletes they should know better. High level Female EWS riders with a none too subtle clue in the first post..
I saw a group of five runners passing me on the other side of the road this morning, while I was out for a run myself.
Hope the motorists and other pedestrians didn't think less of me as a runner because of it.
Female EWS rider called Adam?
As much as lockdown rule breaking absolutely boils my piss, so does people posting in riddles with "clues" and "not naming any names nudge nudge". Just say who it was and stop wasting all our time.
Gowaan and have another look for clues...
Edit, sorry Munrobiker, I'm not na.ing names as I haven't seen the footage, and to be honest I can't be arsed to search it out or get upset by it. This has been a crap 12months there is no point stressing about pro riders training...
The righteous assemble, hardons at the ready.
I thought said ladies lived together anyway...
Still none the wiser as I don't follow racing, so not overly concerned on the who, hopefully they were all just passing at that moment before going their separate ways... hopefully they had a good pedal.
Still none the wiser as I don’t follow racing,
Google ‘Gowaan girls’
Elite athletes are allowed to travel for training. I'd say those ladies qualify as elite, and that tweed valley is an ideal training ground given there's a round of this year's EWS there, I'm not seeing an issue.
There's some man utd players travel more than 2 hours to carrington training ground, and I'm sure most EPL teams will be the same. Any difference?.
Ooh, they sell stickers. Might get one of their stem top caps too.

They are training at a club facility with no public. If they are in England they can train there. Its not a reasonable excuse when there are areas closer to their homes. Footballers are also getting tested constantly.
Which is what they had to do to get the government to agree to football being allowed to commence.
I'll repeat for righteous.
Elite athletes are allowed to train at a location suitable to their sport. Is that easier for you?.
I think it would be fairly easy to argue that TV is a suitable location to train at, for someone who is going to race there.
Is this a wee bit more exciting for you as it's the fairer sex?
Jesus thought the Covid Police where bad in the Lakes !!!
To be honest nobeer, I can't be arsed arguing with you about it.
You think anyone who breaks the rules during a pandemic that's killed over 100,000 people isn't doing any real harm and it's no one else's business, and anyone calling them out on it is some kind of tyrant who gets a lob on from pointing out the law, despite it being you that's mad keen on posting on every thread about rule breakers.
I don't think going round in circles with you calling people righteous and them saying you're a selfish bore who isn't taking the pandemic seriously enough endlessly is a good use of Singletrack's server space.
They are probably all riding the wrong-sized bikes too, surely they need to enlightened on the matter as well as all the other things that they are doing wrong. Is nobody checking-out their make-up routines? The world needs more policing by the sanctimonious STW bigots.
Perhaps we could inject some facts here.....
All 5 riders riders live locally.
The two who were still on the bikes had simply passed their friends who were clearly packing up after a training session, and stopped to say hello.
You may have noticed that during lockdown, people really enjoy bumping into friends who they don’t get to see much these days.
Had you actually stopped to check rather than riding through shaking your head, you’d have clocked the two on the bikes were on 100mm XC bikes so highly unlikely we were riding with EWS pros.
But let’s not let facts get in the way of someone wanting to have a moan and point fingers....especially when it’s pro riders that you’re slagging off and it could affect their careers or reputations.

I'd tend to agree, but shouldn't some balance and facts be offered? See Julie's post above frinstance?. Or do we just allow folk to post what they think is true?.
Fake news eh? Canny beat it.
Socialising rather than training then? That negates the elite athlete loophole doesn’t it?
Would you not speak to friends if you saw them on the hill? I've no idea if they were training or what, has anyone asked them, or do we just speculate?.
@mtnboarder
Could you please explain how 2 riders simply passing by who stopped to say hello to 3 riders who had just packed up their vans AFTER their training session isn’t training?
Perhaps the better response would be to apologise for jumping to the wrong conclusions and publicly slating individuals whom you have identified and pointed fingers with incorrect accusations?
Interesting that you choose to identify other riders when hiding behind an anonymous name yourself.
What's incorrect? I said there may be a defence that they are elite atheletes to train together.
No matter what the circumstance though, a group of 5 adults chatting and socialising is not allowed under current rules. And the fact that they are high profile mtbers, who apparently have had some personal experience of having to isolate, and earn a living from promoting the sport means they should know better.
My name is Dave, and I live just round the corner, pop by for a cuppa once lockdown is over- I'm not hiding anything
No matter what the circumstance though, a group of 5 adults chatting and socialising is not allowed under current rules
So if you were out riding with a friend and you met another, you wouldn't pass the time of day with them?.
Aye, right ye are.
@mtnboarder it’s alright I know who you are. The TV is a small place.
If you’re going to name people, whom it may affect, be big enough to admit when you’re wrong.
For the record, your assumptions are entirely incorrect.
As stated before, all of those riders live in the valley not far from that very spot.
AFAIK there is no law against stopping to say hello to someone in an open public space.
Do you have any friends whom you’d like to say hello to?
Well, that went well.
Julz - I never mentioned travel, please go back and look. I said I accepted that elite riders can travel and no more than that.
But groups of 5 adults socialising is most definitely against the rules, and when it’s in such a public place where non mtbers are passing in cars it’s not an awesome idea.
I had no idea anyone knew me round here, have we met? I’m certainly not one of the local scene.

I reckon the OP just couldn't spell her surname.
I never mentioned travel, please go back and look.

Had you known they all lived locally, would you have mentioned travelling? Your insinuation was that they had travelled from further afield.
You’re kind of clutching at straws with the socialising thing, if it was a case of a chance encounter at the start/end of a ride. Are folk expected to not even say hello in an open area? Hugs all round is probably not a great idea, but can’t see anything less than that being a problem. Certainly no worse than a normal work environment.
People do seem to be going out of their way to take the piss, I’m not sure the girls fall into that category, based on the above.
It was a clear case of taking the piss (IMO) and noticeable from a distance, regardless of who they were or where they were from. A group of 5 adults chatting at a van with no distancing or masks.
Make or female, pro or beginner, biker walker or runner, it was enough to be highly noticeable in the current restrictions.
I only mentioned Gowaan as I assumed wrongly that it was more than just the two of them. I apologise for singling them out, they weren’t the only pro riders there.
Whenever I'm out for a run or ride I see numerous walkers (and sometimes riders) stopping to chat in passing to people they know.
Never once have I thought they were being irresponsible - and I have vocally taken issue with big groups riding and running up my local hill on a few occasions already.
That’s fine, but having ridden through the middle of them it looked just like a big group who’d been riding and were chatting. I didn’t stop to check the travel of each bike to see if they were compatible.
Regardless of who was riding with who, at the time they were one group of five, close together, not socially distanced or taking any kind of precautions. All in full view of a busy road. A quick hello can be achieved while a reasonable distance apart, but that’s not what I saw.
So they aren't socially distanced but you could ride through the middle of the group?
My bars are considerably narrower than 2000mm, if that helps.
Can't have been that close if you rode through the middle.
If you had a problem with them it might have been best to voice your concerns to them there first rather than on here. I'm sure that they would have explained what they were up to and put you at ease.
I'm the same as Chakaping above when I'm out and about.
That’s fine, but having ridden through the middle of them
You rode through the middle of a group of people, all less than 2 meters apart?
Who were the other pro’s?

That raise a number of possibilities:
1. They weren't as close to each other as you have said.
2. You were riding dangerously.
3. You weren't socaial distancing.
4. You are exagerating.
The chances of catching it outside are pretty slim, but you still might as well distance.
This grassing people up thing can do one though, it's pretty tragic TBH. The government has quite successfully got us all blaming each other for the pandemic instead of them. The number one factor affecting death rates is international travel and we are only now trying to implement some kind of proper quarantine system.
