........ So who is treating themselves to a 3hour CX race round a rooty muddy forest this weekend?
I'll be there with a couple of my local chums as a solo.
I'm on the reserve list - didn't realise entries were capped, thought it would be like a cross race where you could turn up on the day.
Looks like a great venue for this sort of event.
I'm sure there'll be at least one no-show.
Yep, I'm in. Planning on cleaning up in the SS MTB solo class.
Unless anyone else turns up on a similar bike of course, then I'll be second.
Anyone taken a look at the course? I assume it's all going to be on the Whitefield car park side, they won't want a road crossing to deal with.
Hellrunner etc always go across Ashton Road so they might.
If they go past the road gap I could jump the peloton!
The course is entirely in the Whitefield area of the forest, there are no road crossings and it uses a host of trails familiar to Delamere regulars.
I've just done a recce and it's riding well, nothing in there that you can't ride on a regular run of the mill CX bike, even at speed, there's a couple of pinch points that should only really effect the first lap, but in usual Delamere style, God help us if it rains!!!
Oh yeah, it's bloody hilly for a CX race too.
Well it's been raining all night and morning, throw in a bit is sleety stuff too. So expect plenty of sandy gritty mud on Sunday
I have an entry now, so game on for Sunday. Weather has indeed been mince all week so expecting a tough course, little bit of sunshine forecast for the day at least.
Nah, it's gonna lash it down all day
Think it will be sloppy? I couldn’t really tell which bits the course was on from the map.
I'll be there, dragging my wheezy dad bod round on a borrowed bike. Try not to splash mud in my eyes as you pass me.
Could be fun with Storm Eric approaching.
I Should get out to watch and support Ag now I'm home..
Eric's going to be long gone by Sunday. Someone had better go and check no new trees have been blown over tomorrow though.
Course is holding up really well. It avoids trails which get really claggy and uses some forest road too. There will definitely be some mud though, there has to be, it's the law in a 'cross race. And it wouldn't be Delamere without some mud now would it 😉
It's amazing isn't it that even at the height of summer you come home from Dalamere with a ball of that special claggy mud wrapped around you bottom bracket.
Great race. Course was a excellent, with plenty of bits that favoured me on the mountain bike. Big up to my club mates who were 3rd team and 2nd woman. Would definitely enter again. Well done the organisers.
That was awesome. There were bits of the course where I wanted toe studs, and bits where I wanted knee pads. Definitely not your typical 'cross race. I'll be back... but possibly in a pair, that last lap was the worst I've felt on a bike in a long time!
Cracking event, really relaxed atmosphere and beer hand ups too.

Great event - Hail to the Loam Ranger! Loved, loved that course, wouldn't have thought it possible to lay on something that rideable in Delamere in Feb.
Had a good ride - not done much beyond 50 min cross efforts for months, so the endurance is a bit ropey. Legs were crying last two laps but kept them turning to roll in 19th.
Canny option through the water past the swampy bit - looked like you were about to pitch the bike into a deep pool, but it was actually a hard surface under the water. Clocked a local riding it second lap so followed suit - freezing water over the Belgian legwarmers wasn't great but it was a good line.
The water-splash was a bit deeper than usual but definitely the right option, I was surprised people were still jumping the ditch bit in the latter laps. The climb with the two rooty steps just after that is much better riden the opposite direction. 😖
