Wondering abour changing my 08 mono mins on my 5 to Xt. I rekon i can sell the hopes for maybe £100 ? So net cost around £120. worthwhile or waste of cash ?

Do you need the extra braking power? ( Assuming the Hopes are set up correctly...)

Would larger rotors be sufficient?

Why? personally I would have the hopes always for the rebuildability. No spares available for Shimnos so if a seal goes they are scrap.

Are the hopes not working properly?

Hopes work ok and are set up correctly. They dont have the same power as my xt ones on the hardtail and quite noticeable when swopping between bikes. Hence thinking of a change....

What pads do you have in the Hopes?

What rotor size (on both bikes?) ?

If the hopes lack power they are not working to their best IMO / IME

They do have less initial bite than shimanos - thats the trade off for the greater feel. My mono minis will lock either wheel with a single finger no problem .

Iain - wait a few weeks for the new XT's - essentially the same brake as the new XTR trail, but a bit heavier and not as pretty - functionally the same though.

Anyone who's ridden the new XTR trail brake is pretty blown away by them.

thanks all. both bikes have 180 front and 160 rear, with sintered shimano pads on the hardtail and sintered Hope pads on the 5. TJ - I can also lock up single fingered, and if I only ride the Orange for a few rides forget that the brakes are less powerful/bitey than the xt's. Problem is I ride both bikes every week, and always feel the Hope's a bit inferior in bite and modulation.

TJ,

XT's are much more powerful for the finger pressure used, you can have a go on Deb's bike this weekend.
