[Closed] Monarch plus RC3 (debonair I think) v Float X Kashima
Looking at a new build and have heard good things about the FOX, however, I'm usually a Rock Shox man. I want reliability and the straightforwardness of Rock Shox, or is worth the extra few quid to have the Float X, and are they more robust these days?
My float x has been performing perfectly for the last 18 months, I've just had it serviced at tf tuned where they said it was in perfect condition still.
So a thumbs up from me.
Cool. What bike do you have it on?
Do you really need a piggy-back shock? If not the Fox DPS shock has a better damper the the float x or monarch.
I'm using a configurator with 3 options, monarch RT3 and the two mentioned above. Suppose I could ask nicely for the non-piggy back FOX. I thought the damper was the same in the new Fox shocks at that level.
No, the Fox website goes into some detail but essentially the DPS is better unless you need the extra volume of oil for loooong descents, in which case you'll benefit from the piggy back.
I'd give J-tech, TFTuned etc a call for some advice
The Fox is more reliable. I've had two Float Xs, with no issues - I've gone throgh three Monarch 3 Plus shocks.
The sealing and QA is just better with Fox.
They feel like the perform the same to me, but if you're not fussed about black vs. gold, then get the Float X.
Long downs are every now and then. Is the DPS that much better?
I have the monarch debonair on the nomad. Mate has the float x on his tranny. Minor differences tbh so whatever is cheaper in my book...
Fox is always more expensive. Here the difference is £70 more for Fox.
I would choose the Float X EVOL. Better air can sealing than any RS shock and IMHO internally it's a better shock.
Not sure where someone gets the DPS shock having better damping than a Float X, that's not something I feel is correct. The DPS is a very nice shock doing the best with what they can in a limited space.
Thanks Rick
Float it is.
