Dumb question, but does anyone stick a grippy racing tyre on the front and a slightly more resilient training tyre on the rear?
E.g. gp4000s/4-season or grand prix gt
or Pro 4 service course / pro 4 endurance?
Good idea or just gonna give me a sketchy rear?
Do you think there would be that much difference in wear
Running continental tyres the backs square off after about 1 season regardless of model (GP4000, GT, Gatorskin). My solution is just to buy multiple tyres and replace the back one every season or so but run the front one for longer. Has worked so far.
I do the same as jonba, a posh front cos they last for ages (and I want grip on the front) but because it's a rear wheel drive I have slightly more robust ones - my fixed gear has a michelin lithion on the front and gatorskin rear
I've just ended up with this half by accident and half out of frustration - another GP4000s trashed from cuts etc. on the rear so I stuck a new Gatorskin on the back instead which I had got to put on a different bike. It will probably stay on there if it's more durable...
