Evening!

Got a set of Avid Elixir R brakes - 185/160 and I'm thinking I'd prefer my hope M4's on there...the Hopes are 183/160 and I was wondering how much of an issue the extra 2mm of rotor will be? Also is the braking surface the same size?

Clearly I've not had a chance to get to the garage to compare the braking surfaces on either rotor to answer this but I'm more thinking of the potential issue of the front brake being a 183 on the Hope and a 185 on the Avid.

Avid's seem to stop me fine but they feel awful...very 'squidgy' but all Avid's I've tried feel like that and I don't like it...

Not ideal, but you could put the M4's on with a couple extra washers to accommodate the extra disc size.

Personally I don't like to many washers on a brake mount, so I'd just sell the complete set of Avid's you have and then buy some new rotors to suit the Hope's.

I'd suggest trying a good bleed, making sure the pistons are moving freely, and the calipers are correctly aligned (not pull the lever then tighten the bolts). I do this day in-day out with Avids, spend the time to set them up correctly, and you'll have a rock solid lever with minimal travel.BTW, I hate them for the time they take up, but they do work very well if you spend the time.

The rotor has 2mm extra diameter but only 1mm extra radius - not worth bothering about! I use Hayes rotors with my Juicys and I never have any problem.
