I have a set of tyres that I use for the winter, originally bought for my Hardrock Sport (29er) but used them on my Trek last year.

The trouble is the rear one sometimes rubs the front mech cable. Realised a few months back the standard rear tyre is 2.0 the front (and my winter tyres) 2.2.

The question is can I mix and match brands and tread patterns?, I'd like to buy a narrower tyre for the winter than the ones I have.

A similar thread was posted just yesterday. 'Fill your boots' would seem to be the advice.
