Thinking of fitting some midges to my fixie, BUT: Will the brake lever angle make for uncomfortable climbing on the brake hoods ?

The angle seems a bit odd compared to normal bars when climbing but don't forget they are more shallow so you can always climb holding onto the bottom of the drops. I love mine.

It's the hauling myself up the 1 in 5's ( & steeper )on the hoods that was playing on my mind...

I've got some on a SS CX and they give me no problems.

You could try a higher-rise stem. This is a 100mm/35° rise - for just riding along or up nice easy climbs I use the hoods, but for proper out-of-the-saddle honking, the high-rise puts the drops in the perfect place. 8)

If you're near the Stourdridge area you're more than welcome to try mine out to see if you like them.
