[#1224081]

has got to be the worst surface I've ever tried to ride on. 2 inches of slippery slush puppy on top of slimy mud. Couldn't get any traction at all, despite chains and mud X tyres. Turned my commute yesterday into a very hairy and frustrating experience. This morning I opted for the road...

+1

My ride in today was hellish with ice and slush conspiring to rob me of all grip and stability.

The 6in deep 'slush ruts' on our road are really hard to get the car out of, making turning into the drive a hit and miss affair of lurching, wheelspin and cussing!

I tried to ride through this last night, total waste of time....it's the way it slowly gives way underneath the wheel that messes it all up I think.

Not too bad on the Remedy with Nevegals, but on the HT with 2.3 slicks today it is crazy!
It's all good for the sense of balance though.

Hang on. Chain? Ride? Do you have snowchains on your bike?

DIY snow chains. Worked well on the ice/hardpack but totally ineffective on the slush puppy

Know what you mean. Went out last night and t.b.h. it was rubbish. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

A lot of hard work for little reward. Fell off mroe than in the preceding three months, and as a new SPD adopter had a lot of ignominious splats into the wet slush. Now got a gashed knee, torn trousers and bashed pride.

Going out tonight to extract my revenge...

Worst I encountered today was some standing water about 6-9 inches deep that was over the top of ice. Absolutely zero grip on that - the melting snow seemed ok, except where it was still a few inches deep and the tyre was sinking into it.

Wednesday's night ride was a pain. Some sections with a frozen crust were a breeze, then, it would suddenly give way to a tankslapper comedy crash. Where it was in between it was plain unrideable. I felt for Alex Slaven who'd been training hard for the Puffer. Can't have done him too much harm, I see he's leading the solos. Go Alex!
