As above, currently training on an ellsworth but was pondering a hardtail build poss a 456c.What do you think
Solo? Pair? 4? 10?
You taking it seriously, or just having a laugh?
Weather conditions can vary the course massively, if it's bone dry it can be a boneshaker, and if it's wet it can be like riding in the somme.
If your full sus is light, and has good mud clearance, I'd be tempted to take that (and some thin mud tyres should it come to it), but if the full sus is heavy and/or doesn't have good tyre clearance, then a hardtail will probably be better.
EDIT: Light weight is important too, due to the amount of climbing per lap. It's a LOT tougher than other 24hr courses in the climbing department.
SS HT
In a 4 and serious about beating all our teams, bikes about 26lbs with its light wheels on
HT. The course is a little bumpy in places but the climbs are all smooth. Lighter the better...
Plus if it rains you won't be wanting a full sus...
GB
Some sort of bike. With wheels. And possibly gears. Or possibly not.
IME, if a rider is fast, they're fast on just about anything! ๐
+1 for Hardtail. Done it on both but it if it gets wet, it's a misery so the simpler the better.
Do it on a pugsley
Lighter the better...
I'd just say that, if the HT is lighter, take that. Although this:
Plus if it rains you won't be wanting a full sus...
Is sound advice!
Hardtail FTW at Mayhem.
Especially in a team that wants to go fast. Would an Ellsworth even last 6 hours?
