[Closed] Maxxis tyres and clipless pedals

Hi, can’t help notice that every bike is wearing Maxxis tyres (been away from mtb for 10 or so years). Will I be dragged to the side of the trail and beaten if I don’t have them too? Seriously though, what’s the deal? Are they that good or are Maxxis paying a lot for product placement? Also, I need pedals for when my new bike arrives. I used clipless in the past and want to stick with them but like the idea of the flat style clipless pedals like the Cook Bros Mallet DH or Shimano M820 to match with the flat/skate style shoes with cleats. Looking for recommendations for shoes and pedals please that would be suitable for trail riding. Thanks.

@joebristol thanks again Joe. I did more research on the mallets. Seems they need a lot of maintenance and the cleats need replacing often. On the other hand, the Horizon’s use the Shimano mechanism which are bombproof and can be adjusted and have less float and less degrees needed to get out all of which suits me better. Had to get them in red though... ‘best’ of the colours left in stock.
