[#11466691]

So miniLD has managed to bounce his 7 month old Lyrik ultimates off a rock and has dented/cracked them so fluid is escaping. Anyone else done this and does anyone know if Rockshox are likely to cover this under warranty? - my gut is no but others are saying they will.

Can't see it being covered under warranty, but respect is due to the lad for doing that kind of damage. Mine have taken a fair few knocks and still working fine.

What is it that's actually damaged? Post a pic maybe.

They won't. It is crash damage.

I've not seen it yet, I'm at work and he's going to send pics. Says it's a dent towards the bottom of the lower leg with a crack which squishes liquids out when he compresses. He was probably going quite fast!

I’d be looking for a pair of donor Yaris and chalk it up to bad luck.

No way would I be expecting a warranty claim on a crash damaged set of lowers.

Barclays bike insurance accidental damage would have that covered.

Can SRAM offer replacement lowers from their tech centre at a sensible price?

Second hand Yaris can be had for around £200. Use the lowers and keep the uppers as spares, bin the internals. Get some new graphics made up if he needs them to say Lyrik again

Looks like I can get new lowers for 225 so unless I can find real bargin Yari's that would seem to be the sensible option. He won't be happy with no bike for long - rides nearly every day!
Matt, of course it was local! Mine woods. Can't afford for him to break HT as it's his paper round bike.
Could try him on spare 140 forks just for a laugh.

Put a big sticker over it and forget it happened

Wish I could but leaking air/oil every time fork is compressed, maybe a very sticky sticker would seal it right enough.

Aye, and the crack is unlikely to propagate, not in a cast material, and it isn't on a safety critical component, and if you think about it, the forces from the brake will probably keep it all together. Sticker up! What is the worst that could happen?

JB weld. Or get a local fab shop to weld it up. I'm assuming it's cast aluminium? I've had that welded before. It was a water cooled inlet manifold. It took 3-4 attempts to get it water tight. So if you go down the welding route I would suggest a small amount of JB weld over the top to seal any possible pin hole leaks.

It's low pressure and no real heat involved so I can't see why it wouldn't work and hold.

Think the lowers are magnesium alloy.

If you buy second hand Yari’s you get a free CSU out of it for when he ruins a stanchion

As above JB Weld, works great on radiators and engine cases....

The lowers are magnesium so it would be a specialist welding job and not guaranteed.....second hand Yari's all the way.....any footage of said crash???. lol.

OP - I was gonna say you need to find someone with a Lyrik borked in a different way, but it looks like he's already found you.

I've done this before to Lyriks, in exactly the same way - somehow walloped the bottom of them and put a ring crack around the bolt. I happened to be at the Megavalanche and worked for a Rockshox dealer and Sram were there supporting team riders. They gave me a new set of lowers and fitted them (although one of the guys working there said something to the effect of "why the hell are we doing this, it's crash damage and nothing to do with us" to which the response was "good will").

I think unless Rockshox are feeling extremely generous you'll have to suck it up.

It's 27.5 sadly so I don't think compatible. That would be an ideal solution though!
Apparently a low speed OTB on a "tech rock" line, damage was bike flipping onto a rock. No video which is a bit shocking in this era!

I have some 27.5 Boost Yaris that you can have for £200. I am in Milnathort if that is helpful.

Wrap it in duct tape, I’m sure it’ll be fine 😉
