Anyone tried? looking at it as a sort of Minion SS alternative for rocky uplift days, as it can be had in double down casing

It is ok, don't think it does anything better than the Minion DHF. Tread not as shallow as pics suggest.
I personally found it to be ok on drier, harder trails, doesn't inspire confidence on looser, damp/wet conditions.
Mine is the 3C version not the DD Casing if that makes a difference.
