I've just checked over bike for big ride on Sunday (SDW), the front tyre had a load of blisters under the outer skin. so obviously i popped them and a satisfying spurt of liquid came out. They have now flattened and the sealant is I guess kind of sticking it together again. Do I need to rush out and get a new tyre? Maxxis 2.35 Ignitor LUST by the way.
What could go wrong...
I have this all the time - very annoying - usually happens before the tyre is worn so I'm loathe to replace them.
I've heard it's the sealant getting in between the ply layers - if the sealant has ammonia in it (wheel milk from JRA has this apparently) then it can delaminate the layers.
Prob ok to run it but still very annoying! Anyone managed to 'cure' this?
I'm now on Stans sealant - will see how that goes....
I have had the same issue on several Crossmark tyres while running Stan's fluid. I looked into it at the time and it seemed to be a common problem , from what I remember Maxxis don't recommend using sealant! I emailed Maxxis about it but never had a reply. I use a different brand of tyres now and have never had the problem again.
I am using Stans, I have had it happen before and got the tyre replaced by my LBS, not sure whether it means the structure is weaker or anything. Maybe it's time to go back to Schwalbe, but they are so freaking expensive, i stopped using them when I went tubeless because of the eye-watering price for UST versions.
just put a brand new one on the back too. no blisters yet!
I run stans and i have had it with bontrager tubeless tyres.
