Lighter and stronger than Mavic719s laced to Chris King hubs, worth changing? Anybody here use the SXs, what's the engagement like? Opinions please.

Cheers!

My only experience of them was three years ago and had a nightmare when a couple of spokes got damaged when a mech imploded (they were very specififc and hollow ali ones) And i was in France!
Sticking with DTs now.

Bearings needed regular tweaking too.

I have had a set for just over a year 1 yr 2 months. They have done a lot of miles and been to Cwmcarn Dh for an uplift day, they have also been to Gawton and Tavi and Cann woods so they seem quite indestructible.

Have had no problems with them.Strong and quite light.I weigh 16 stone and ride quite aggressively.I have just changed a couple of bearings in the rear hub.
I strip mine and clean out the freehub and re-lube them every 3/4 months.
Pickup is ok but is not even close to the I9's i had before.

I am trying to find some cash to build up a set of Chris kings with either stans alpine or mavic xm ust rims.

ive been using 2009 sx's for about a year, very happy with them.
Still have king hubs on flow rims and TBH, the king hubs are better but the flow rims are no where near as good as the sx rims. UST just rocks when used with UST tyres.
On balance the benefit of the rims outweighs the downsides of using the maxxis hubs.

I had a set of CK's with 819's bet felt the rims were too narrow to fit 2.25"+ tyres so replaced them with Flows which give a great profile. Really happy with the wheels - light, strong, can be run tubeless, easily serviceable, both for truing and servicing bearings.

I also have a set of 08 SX's and 2 sets of 09 SX's and love them. Unlike the Flows, the rims don't need tape for tubeless, and are similar width. I have a set on my freeride bike and seem strong enough to stand a load of abuse but still light enough for xc rides.

Guess I'm not helping the decision as I'm saying both are great wheelsets. At the margin I'd take the SX's as lighter and don't need tape to run tubeless and look more pimp.

PS Not much difference between 09 SX and CK in terms of pick-up.

I have Crossmax SX's on my Blur LTc. Love 'em. 12 months riding & zero attention required, although I will be giving the rear a basic service soon as there's a tiny amount of play. As light as could be expected for a tough wheelset, and the engagement is way quicker than Hope hubs I have on other bikes. Freewheel noise is audible but restrained too, which is nice. If they died, I'd immediately buy another set.

Cheers folks. No closer to a decision, would love the cash to have both. I guess that I need to start saving or look at some lighter but stronger rims. Do they exist!?

lighter and stronger rims = easton haven carbon, proper UST rim (unlike edge's) and same width as crossmax. Supposed to be <1500g so about 280g less than current crossmax sx in exchange for about £2000 ($2400).
Easton also do an identical alloy set available now at $800 which is slightly lighter than crossmax - not sure on uk retail prices though.

I think that is too rich for me. It would be nice to be able to though. The NoTubes ZTR Flow rims look pretty good but the weight is similar to the 719s although they are wider and you have the option of running tubeless.
