Matching clothes to bike (or not)!

I ride an Orange 5 which has a bright blue and orange frame. I also have a cycling top which is similarly blue and orange - riding both together looks a bit 'trying to hard'. I did get comments...

Is matching (or purposely not-matching) clothes to bike a thing? Can I wear an orange top on an orange Orange? Or if Loic Bruni had a red frame would he look a nob in his bright red Specialized top? Am I over thinking this?!

Am I over thinking this?!

If you have to ask 😉

Having said that:

my favourite Stolen Goat riding jersey is a rather nice orange colour that neatly matches the front of my gravel bike.

I have a blue, white and black Decathlon top that matches my Giant Defy's "colourway", although I usually wear the orange one.

My MTB kit is definitely more random although the helmet and shorts are reasonably well matched to each other. I think I need a more matchy jersey though.  Having kit to match the pink one and the yellow one might be more challenging.

If you like how it looks then it looks good.

I'm lucky if I manage to match my gloves with each other!

Having many different riding tops/outfits and many bikes in different colours helps avoid this crushingly embarrassing faux pas.

If one gave a shit about such things.

If you like to be coordinated, then coordinate your self.

Who cares what other people think of the colour of your bike kit.

Most of my bikes are silver, so short of wearing tinfoil I am not going to coordinate.

Not really, but then my normal bibs/shorts combo is black (like my road bike) with either a blue/green or white top. Green if I am feeling gnar on the Stumpy. The Stumpy is white/red, so nothing really matches.

If someone weas kit that matches their bike, it will be commented on.

Our annual awards include Best Dressed and Worst Dressed, but matching your bike is not a requirement.

I will confess to wearing a checked flannel shirt (not bike co-ordinated) when I've been on a gravel ride...

I seem to have a fiar bit of Olive/khaki green stuff and was always very consious when riding my old Cotic Cascade as I thought people would think I was trying too hard. I don't think that factored in my decision to sell it, but who knows subconciously.....

My bikes now are Silver (with orange bits), metalic grey (with purple bits) and Purple. So wearing my green stuff is now ok!

This is why black bikes are the best. Everything goes with black.

My last two bikes have had a green theme, to match my riding outfits, which were bought to match my green five-tens which were on sale.

Unfortunately my next bike is sold out in green in my size, and they no longer do green five tens, so it's back to clown colours for me.

I do for the road bike (got to look smart etc). Gravel bike to a lesser extent.

For the MTB it is whatever is clean and at the top of the pile. But colour matching to mine would be a challenge even for Grayson Perry.

This makes little sense to me... I have a lovely Orange (of Halifax) Jersey, one of my favourites. But I cannot currently wear it on bike rides because I dont currently own an Orange!

See, what the pros get wrong are those WHITE trousers that always get a skidmark up the back after their (ahem) runs. Ban white trousers now!

Wear shorts/tops that look good together.

Don't give two hoots about whether they match the bike.

FKWs/enduro pyjama wearers are the preserve of the race scene.

Beware its a slippery slope - you might start wearing trendy (but wholly inappropriate for actually riding outside) white shoes next!!!
